Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest 2015 Temporary Recreation, Archeology, Administration, and Engineering
Outreach Announcement for GS-2/GS-3/GS-4/GS-5/GS-6/GS-7 The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest will soon begin filling multiple temporary seasonal GS-2, GS-3, GS-4, GS-5, GS-6, and GS-7 recreation, archeology, administration and engineering positions for 2015. These are SEASONAL TEMPORARY positions with a maximum six month tour schedule (NTE 1039 hours). The anticipated start date for these positions varies from the end of April to early June, 2015. Employees who are students generally work through the end of August, while others may work as late as November. Most of the positions require physical exertion in rough terrain. The work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions including summer heat, rain and snow. Housing may be available at duty stations. Recreation: Developed recreation crews maintains campgrounds, trailhead and dispersed recreation sites. Duties include removing litter, cleaning bathrooms, repairing existing facilities, contacting members of the public, and collecting data pertinent to recreation use. Work is performed in all weather conditions. Trails: Trail crews maintain hiking trails on the Forest. Work includes cutting and removing trees that have fallen across trails, providing proper drainage on trails and picnic areas, regular repairing trails, removing brush, and other manual labor. Positions will work in all weather conditions, hike long distances, carry loads exceeding 25 pounds (including tools), and spend multiple days at a time in the backcountry. Archeology: Archeology technicians assist in performing procedural archeological fieldwork assignments using compass, topographical map, and aerial photographs, and/or GPS unit to conduct archeological surveys and to record site locations. They may search areas for surface historic and prehistoric archaeological remains and artifacts. Hiking long distances to remote areas should be expected. Work will be conducted under arduous (wet) weather and terrain conditions. Engineering: The equipment operator helpers perform the simpler and more routine operation of heavy gasoline or diesel powered equipment, such as, large industrial tractors, dump trucks, motor graders, soil compactors, tractors with
attachments, dozer tractors, front-end loaders, backhoes, excavators and brush cutters. They will operate equipment to perform basic assignments for cutting, moving, digging, grading, and rolling earth, sand, stone, and other materials. Administration: These positions are located at the front offices to provide information services such as greeting visitors, answering telephones, responding to routine inquiries from a variety of customers, and providing overall support to the administrative staff on the unit. Information assistants will also be responsible as collection officers for the sale of forest maps, passes and product permits.
Region 6 National Forests (Oregon and Washington) will be opening vacancy announcements in USAJOBS for the GS-2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 vacancies in these programs. The Announcements will be open from February 4h to February 10th. You will only be able to apply to these announcements during those dates.
