IndiaToday.in New Delhi, July 20, 2015 Rejecting allegations of an increased involvement of the government in the working of educational institutes such as IIT and IIM, Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani on Monday said the notion that BJP-led government is saffronising education is completely misplaced. Speaking during Mail Today Education Conclave-2015, Irani also asserted that allegations of appointment of people close to RSS in top educational institution of the country is wrong. " The government is not interfering in working of any autonomous educational institution of the country," the minister said. Irani was referring to the controversy which erupted after IIT-Madras banned a discussion forum for students earlier this year after an anonymous complaint was filed against it for trying to spread hatred against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The forum, according to the complaint, summoned SC/ST students to question government policies on the use of Hindi and the ban on cow slaughter.

The decision came after the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) made an inquiry regarding the anonymous complaint it had received on the activities of the Ambedkar Periyar Student Circle (APSC) on the IIT campus. The education minister added that the government is also working to improve the infrastructure in government-aided educational institutes to match the facilities available at private schools and colleges. " We can not allow our students to be dependent on the private sector for quality education," Irani said. " The government will present new education policy draft till December," she said.
