General Assembly Prepares for Veto Session as Governor Takes Final Action on CT-N Capitol Report: Week in Review

Hartford, CT – This Friday at 7 p.m., Connecticut Network viewers will recap a week where Governor Dannel Malloy took final action on bills from the 2015 Legislation Session, all while the General Assembly prepares for their upcoming Veto Sessions on the latest episode of CT-N Capitol Report: Week in Review. Governor Malloy continued taking action on bills that were passed by the Connecticut General Assembly this past legislative session. In all, the Governor has vetoed nine bills and the focus now turns to the House of Representatives and State Senate as they are required by the State Constitution to convene Veto Sessions. House Speaker Brendan Sharkey and Senate President Pro Tempore Martin Looney, both Democrats, were asked whether any veto overrides will be attempted during next week’s session. Capitol Report will review their answers and provide an overview of the action taken by the Governor. Vetoes were not the only thing on the Governor’s plate this week as he held a bill signing ceremony for legislation intended to reduce the increasing problem of opioid abuse in Connecticut. He also continued to promote his Second Chance Society initiative by visiting inmates at the Hartford Correctional Center on the same day President Barack Obama became the first sitting president to visit a federal prison. The Governor capped off his week by attending a groundbreaking ceremony for Pratt & Whitney’s new headquarters and engineering building in East Hartford. Elsewhere at the Capitol, new co-chairs were named for a task force designed to study strategies that address the impact of domestic violence on families, particularly children. The Commissioner of the Department of Transportation shared his thoughts on building better regional transportation systems in Connecticut and a commission tasked with finding ways for the state to lead the country in attracting business discussed the hedge fund industry. This week’s episode will discuss all these happenings, as well as a special ceremony attended by Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman that honored the remains of four unclaimed Connecticut veterans. Capitol Report: Week in Review summarizes the activity at the State Capitol during the week, using voice over and graphics to combine history, context, and next steps in the process with full-length excerpts from the week’s proceedings. The program premieres on CT-N every Friday night at 7:00 p.m., then rebroadcasts at Noon and 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, 8:00 p.m. on Sundays, and 6:00 a.m. Monday mornings; check CT-N’s online program schedule for additional airtimes.
