North York Storm Midget A 2015-16 Season Information Forward, Defense, and Goalie positions open We are looking for female hockey players interested in joining a highly competitive hockey team and development program. We are looking for players who demonstrate the following criteria: -

All new players will be welcomed additions to a solid core of seasoned players who have played together for multiple seasons. Head Coach Mike James - A full time, professional Hockey instructor and coach. -

10 years of playing experience at AAA and Junior A levels in GTA. Over 12 years of experience as a professional hockey instructor for male and female hockey players. Developed over 4000 hockey players from all ages and calibres in 100’s of private lessons, skill development classes, clinics, camps, and team practices. Over 8 years of coaching experience at boys AAA and girls competitive teams.

Coaching Highlights -

2014/15 - NYS Midget BB. LLFHL “Final 4” contestant and provincials. Finished season in 2nd place in the Central loop. 2012/13 - Scarborough Sharks Bantam BB. undefeated regular season, ranked 1st in all of LLFHL Bantam BB. Attended LLFHL “Final 4” and provincials. 2011/12 - Scarborough Sharks Bantam B. LLFHL Division Champions, Earned LLFHL “Final 4”… winning a bronze medal. 2006-2010 - Markham Majors AAA Minor Bantam, Bantam, Minor Midget.

Player Development -

60% of all practices are devoted to IN DEPTH individual skill development. Players will learn how to develop proper techniques for stickhandling (dribbling, deking, puck control, and puck protection); for shooting (wrist, snap, slap, backhand and off foot shots); for passing; for skating (edgework, lateral movement, forward stride, acceleration, backwards, backwards acceleration, pivoting); for body contact and protection. Ingenuity and inventiveness are encouraged (within a team framework).

Team Development -

40% of all practices are devoted to team concepts and strategies…which will be broken down and taught clearly and precisely, using detailed lesson plans. Players will learn in-depth about the following… but are not limited to: 4 different types of breakouts, defensive zone coverage, 1-2-2 and 2-1-2 neutral zone and offensive zone fore-checks,

power play systems (high option and low option), penalty killing systems (box and Diamond), and faceoff strategies. Spring/Summer Program -

Practice will run throughout May… 2 practices per week, 2 hours each. Usually on weekends (late mornings or early evenings). We restart later in August and after a few practices, hold our training camp -16 hours on ice over 4 days, just before the Labour Day weekend. This will be our 4th year of this in-depth program, and has been very successful in preparing our players for the upcoming season… especially September exhibition games, early bird tournaments etc.

The spring /summer budget estimate is $595 per player. The cost of this program averages about $17 per hour per player on the ice, including all instruction and ice rentals. Fall/winter practice and Home games For the last 2 seasons we have practiced on Mon. nights at Agincourt arena (1.5hrs) and Wed. nights at Mitchell Field (1 hour). We estimate 105-110 hours of practice time for the 2015/16 regular season. Home games are usually played at the Buckingham arena or Canlan York University on weekends. Tournaments -

3 or 4 tournaments including 1 away tournament in Ontario We expect to compete for the LLFHL and Provincial Championship tournaments

Coaching Staff Our coaching staff is 100% committed to the team and to the development of each player selected. Our expectation as a coaching staff is that the same commitment is made by each player for games, practices, team events and socials. Fall/Winter Budget -

Estimated at $3800-$4000 per player - Subject to ice rental fees, fundraising and sponsorship, etc. This fee does not include the NYS organizational fee. After signing, each family will receive a detailed budget breakdown and will receive updates as per our team treasurer. Custom tailored payment plans are available for each family as required.
