November 18, 2016 Welcome to the Southeast Region! Our Fall Conference and meeting were held on October 28, 2016 at SEARK in Pine Bluff. Dewayne Yarbrough from the Attorney General’s office presented information on Dating Violence, and Doug Estes with the Arkansas State Police shared information with the regional counselors regarding Cyber Crimes. Sgt. Cameron Mosby and another guest with the Arkansas National Guard also gave an overview of free programs for schools and general information about the National Guard. Mrs. Sandy Hollingsworth, Regional President, presented information and resources to the counselors , including the eSharing of lesson plans and encouraged each counselor to become involved in this. The counselors enjoyed a barbeque lunch catered by Moore’s Barbeque of White Hall, along with winning resourceful counseling door prizes to take back and use at their schools. They were each provided with a tote bag that contained a stress ball, a motivational pocket calendar, and a flash drive loaded with the resources shared by Sandy. SEARK was very generous and provided drinks and an afternoon snack of freshly baked cookies. The fall regional meeting was conducted during the conference. During the meeting, a new secretary had to be elected following the resignation of Melanie Brown, who is now at Jacksonville Middle School, which is not a part of the Southeast Region. Anterica Baylark was elected the new secretary of the region by unanimous vote. The meeting also included a discussion on getting the word out about nominating the new elementary, middle, secondary, and multi-level counselors for the region. A hard copy of the bylaws for the region is yet to be found, and this is a priority at this time for our region. Make plans now to attend the Southeast Region meeting in July at the ArSCA & ADE Summer conference. We hope to see you all then!
