9 November 2016 Hi team Last week proved to be another busy week at South Hornby School, particularly for the Middle Syndicate who not only had the school athletic sports, but also a trip to Orana Park! School Athletic Sports – Last Wednesday was the South Hornby School Athletic Sports. The students had been training hard over the last six weeks and it was great to see all their hard work pay off. Massive thanks to Mrs Dinnington and the rest of the South Hornby Staff for running and organising this event. A huge congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent the school at this week’s Zone Athletic Sports. We look forward to hearing about your achievements. Highlights for the students included feeding the giraffes, spending time with the Sumatran Tigers and getting up close with NZ’s only Gorilla’s. A big thanks to all the parents/caregivers who supported our students on this trip.

Gold coin donation and all proceeds will go to ‘Red Nose Day for Cure Kids’. Parents are welcome to come to school at 2.30 p.m. to be part of the release of the balloons. Awhina MUFTI Walkathon Day – Friday 9 December 12 p.m. starting with a family lunch time. This will be a Hot Dog Day. A more detailed notice will be sent home nearer the time. The NEW BUILD – UPDATE In this week’s copy of the Western News the Board of Trustees has designed a feature article providing the wider community an overview of the new South Hornby School. We have attached this article for you all to have a look at. A couple of rumours have been circulating regarding the new school around uniforms and the new school zone. At this stage, the SHS Board of Trustees have no intention of changing the school uniform. The entire parent community would be consulted prior to any change of this nature. The new SHS Zone does not come into effect until BOTH South Hornby School AND Sockburn School move location (not until 2018). Until that time NO School Zone exists so any family can enrol regardless of where they live.
