News Release AVIVA Community Fund $100,000 Winner: St. Anthony Catholic School, Ottawa December 2, 2015

Ottawa - The St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School “Oasis” is going to happen. Thanks to the hard work of the community, St. Anthony School is a $100,000 winner towards their school yard greening project. In November, St. Anthony School qualified for the finals of the Aviva Community Fund competition by submitting a great plan to take their school yard from “Asphalt to Oasis”. After voting by the public across Canada, St. Anthony was the big winner in the ‘Community Resilience’ category. St. Anthony School has a lot of people to thank. First, kudos and thanks to the community surrounding St. Anthony who worked tirelessly to put out the word about the project and get people voting every day. Second, thanks to the coordinating efforts of Principal Paul McGuire, who helped everyone around him believe this could really happen. Third, thanks to Aviva for coming up with such a great platform to share ideas and give money to worthy projects. Some of the things we look forward to happening are: the safe removal and disposal of a lot of asphalt, renovating the ground below, and adding greenery and simple play structures. When it is finished this will be not only a wonderful addition to the school but also something for the entire community to enjoy.
