Oshkosh community identifies 12 key characteristics for next superintendent Thank you to all who helped develop candidate profile Oshkosh, WI – The Oshkosh Area School District Board of Education extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the Oshkosh community for participating in its superintendent search and helping develop the candidate profile. Over 500 educators, students, business leaders and community members participated in stakeholder meetings and/or completed two online surveys. This feedback was used to create a candidate profile and determine the characteristics that the Oshkosh community desires in a superintendent; to be used in advertising the position and for recruiting candidates who match the criteria. The Board of Education reviewed all of the feedback received and used it to finalize the candidate profile. Based on the input provided, the following 12 criteria were identified and deemed most important for the next superintendent (in no particular order):

Is comfortable leading innovation and reform efforts. Willing to listen to input, but is a decision maker with the ability to develop and communicate a vision of quality education. Has previous experience that will benefit the long-term financial health of the district. Demonstrates commitment to community visibility with high interest in a broad range of community groups and organizations. Has the ability to develop and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between the business community and the school district. Has experience recruiting and maintaining exceptional staff for the district and schools. Promotes a positive and professional environment for district employees and the Board of Education. Is strongly committed to a “student first” philosophy in all decisions. Possesses the leadership skills required to respond to the challenges presented by an ethnically and culturally diverse community. Possesses the ability to enhance student performance, especially in identifying and closing or narrowing the gaps in student achievement.
