Executive Summary for Laney High School: Instructional Improvement Plan

CONTENT PLANNING:

Laney High School teachers will utilize teacher webpages for classroom communications with parents in 100 % of the classrooms. Students and teachers will be engaged in relevant classroom activities 100% of the time. Laney High School teachers will communicate information about attendance and academics on a two week regular basis via the Parent Assist Module of Homebase 100 % of the time. Laney High School will utilize Facebook and the Connect 5 phone calling system on an as needed basis to communicate with parents.

Laney High School teachers will plan lessons according to the new North Carolina Standard Course of Study (Common Core & Essential Standards) 100 % of the time. Laney High School teachers will adjust lesson plans and instruction based on formal and informal assessments on an as needed basis. Laney High School teachers will coordinate lesson plans, course syllabi and pacing guides within monthly cluster groups and will adjust as necessary to achieve growth. Laney High school will intentionally incorporate ACT and Workkeys exam preparation in lesson plans on a daily basis. Laney High School is piloting a competency based instruction/Assessment program. Laney High School is in the first year of implementation of its STEM Signature Program.

ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING:

Laney High School teacers will post daily agendas 100% of the time to include essential questions and essential standards based on goals and objectives from North Carolina Standard Course of Study (Common Core), bell work, daily best instructional practices and closure. Laney High School will utilize best instructional practices to include Thinking maps, STAE strategies, Artisan Teachers, and other best practices which include technology. Laney teachers will meet within academic cluster groups for planning purposes. Laney teachers will participate in school based professional learning community.

Laney High School EOC teachers will utilize assigned Schoolnet benchmark assessments 100 % of the time and will adjust instruction based on mastery of student learning. Laney administration will conduct daily walk through observations and provide feedback on a regular basis. Laney High School teachers will utilize teacher made assessments and will adjust instruction as need based on mastery of learning objectives.
