Middle School Summer Explorations Session 1 June 11 - June 29 1 Hour Classes Coding - 8:00 am - 9:00 am Robotics, video games, and online gaming sites are created through computer programming also known as coding. In this class will learn simple programming language as well as drag and drop programming. You will be using coding sites, coding programs and Spheros to practice your coding skills. If you enjoy challenge then this class is for you. *New* Basketball Fundamentals A - 8:00 am - 9:00 am In basketball fundamentals, coaches will provide individual and group instruction to help players develop and improve their dribbling and shooting skills *NEW* On the Move A - 9:00 am - 10:00 am Get your body moving. Using a blend of yoga, breathing techniques and body weight circuits, come find your strength, balance and flexibility. Learn how to keep your body healthy with techniques you can use anywhere and any time.

Session 1 June 11 - June 29 Continued Art Expressions B - 10:00 am- 12:00 pm This is a hands on art/craft class in which students will leave with the projects they make. We will be making personal statement boards, painting a piece of furniture of your choice, a seasonal holiday sign, bead work, and much more. Join this class to express your individuality in different forms of art and crafts Babysitter Training - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Staying home alone or babysitting this summer? In this class, we will explore how to be safe and responsible when adults are not home. Photography: Life through the lens 10:00 am-12:00 pm In this course, students will be learning about photography and the role it plays in our everyday lives. We will discuss the different strategies that photographers use (black and white versus color, the angle of the shot, the meaning behind the photograph, etc) and how these impact the final photograph that is often published. We will also discuss the role that photography plays in our own individual lives every day. Students will be assigned different items or ways to take certain photographs to bring back to class and put together a digital portfolio of sorts.

*New* Group Piano Lessons - 9:00 am - 10:00 am Intended to help students grow their musicianship skills through beginning level piano. Students will work independently on piano and may be at different levels. Piano workbooks will be available, but students are welcome to bring their own. Tat the end of the session, we will have a piano recital where each student will be able to play a piano solo for thir family and friends in the MHS Auditorium. Date of Recital: TBA

Middle School Show Choir 10:00 am - 12:00 pm This course is for middle school students who have an interest in being involved in a show choir. Students will sing and dance to age appropriate choir pieces of different styles and cultures. This class also give middle school students the opportunity to develop thei musical skills and learn how to work with others in a choral setting The Class will end with a choir concert held in the MHS auditorium. Date of Concert: TBA

Read, Lead, Succeed! - 9:00 am - 10:00 am As a class, we will be working through a novel of choice together. Students will be given a choice between four to five novels to unanimously choose from. Working through the novel together, we will be able to cover different strategies to overcome difficult vocabulary, comprehension strategies, etc. At the end of the course, with parent permission, we will watch the movie that was based off of that book. This will give us the opportunity to compare/contrast the events in the book and how they were portrayed through the film as well as the impact these changes had.

*New* Discover Engineering A 10:00 am - 12:00 pm How tall can you build a tower just using paper? Will a marble stay on a roller coaster with loops? Students will try their hands at engineering in this hands on class.

Want to impress your friends and family by speaking in another language? Then this is the class for you! With over 400 million people speaking Spanish all over the world, this class will help you start building a skill you can use for a lifetime. Together we will learn useful phrases for school and travel. We will build vocabulary that gives you a head start if you choose to take Spanish during the school year. Learning though culture, music/food/art/sports, we’ll be sure to keep the learning hands-on and relevant. All learners are welcome!

Book Nuts Unite! - 10:00 am - 11:00 am As a class, we will inspire and motivate each other to grow our passion for reading. The class will be set up in a book club format with a variety of titles and genres available for students to choose from. Students will be given a focus question or skill that we first work through as a class. Then, students will be set off into their reading groups to work through these skills and discuss the text on a deeper level with one another (as well as with guidance from me). There will be time for independent reading as well as read-alouds in small groups.

Have you ever been interested in learning how to fish, or maybe you would like to improve your skills and learn more about this hobby? We will tackle topics such as choosing the correct lure, using and caring for equipment and tackle, casting a rod, different types of fish in Wisconsin, and much more!

You will act, sing, create the set, and perform for an audience. Everyone will have a part in the musical. This will be a fun learning experience, and we will show off our skills with a performance for family and friends at the end! This year we will be performing: Twinderella The Musical. This is a take of Cinderella but she has a long lost twin named Bob. With the help of her Fairy Godmother and two enchanted gerbils the twins reunite.

Water Sports B - 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays Only There is more fun to be had in the pool than just floating around or swimming laps.
