Date: January 11, 2017 In consonance with DepEd Memorandum No. 185, s. 2016 re: 2016 Drug Abuse Prevention And Control (DAPC) Week with the Theme: 2016 Drug Abuse Prevention And Control (DAPC) Week, this Office hereby informs the field to submit A Brief Narrative and Pictorial Report on the educational and social activities conducted from November 13 - 19, 2016 significantly with the purpose of making people aware of the dangers posed by drug abuse, and to further strengthen the resolve of every individual to take part in the fight against this societal menace on January 13, 2017. Attached is a copy of DepEd Memorandum No. 185, s. 2016 for your perusal. Immediate dissemination and compliance with this Memorandum is directed.

2016 DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION AND CONTROL WEEK To:

The Department of Education (DepEd) will join in the observance of the Drug 1. Abuse Prevention and Control (DAPC) Week with the theme Listening to Children and Youth is the First Step to Help Them Grow Healthy and Safe from November 13 to 19, 2016. This is pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation No. 124 dated November 26, 2001 entitled Declaring the 3rd Week of November of Every Year as Drug Abuse Prevention and Control (DAPC) Week. 2. The Celebration aims to make people aware of the dangers posed by drug abuse, and to further strengthen their resolve to do their share in the fight against this menace. 3. All public and private elementary and secondary schools are enjoined to organize educational and social activities to celebrate the occasion. The suggested activities are the following: a. Preliminary Activities i. Putting up of bulletin displays depicting the theme in strategic places in the schools and in the community; ii. Radio broadcast announcing the DAPC Week Celebration; and iii. Coordination with the local government units (LGUs), such as municipal and barangay officials, parent-teachers associations (PTAs), and nongovernment organizations (NGOs) related to the week's activities. b. Activities during the Week i. Holding of Interfaith services to mark the beginning of the week; ii. Conduct of the following: • School-community parade; • Literacy-musical program; • Intensive educational campaign against drug abuse, through symposia, seminars, film showing, community assemblies, school PTA meetings/ conferences and print broadcast media; and • Contests, such as slogan and essay writing, poster making, painting/ drawing/ sketching, composition of jingle, rhymes, songs.

iii. Integration of the drug abuse prevention messages/ concepts in appropriate subject areas at the elementary and secondary levels and in the school paper/organ; iv. Holding of exhibits and shows to be participated in by all sectors in the community; v. Awarding of certificates of recognition to outstanding organizations which have made significant contributions toward the prevention of drug and substance abuse in the schools and in the community; and vi. Mobilization of all school organizations and scouts in the drug abuse prevention activities. 4. The National Drug Education Program coordinators from the schools divisions and regional offices are enjoined to reach out or coordinate activities with the LGUs and NGOs. 5. However, activities should not disrupt classes as stipulated in DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005 entitled Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewift narrativeand pictorial
