WYNN HANDMAN THEATRICAL STUDY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORMS ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA DISCIPLINE GUIDELINES

WYNN HANDMAN THEATRICAL STUDY SCHOLARSHIP The Wynn Handman Scholarship was established by the Coweta Board of Education through the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts to promote the study of the Theater. The scholarship is available to a deserving senior level student attending an accredited high school within Coweta County and is designed to encourage participation in the arts and rewards the student who will enrich the cultural environment in his community.

ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION 1. Recipients are selected on the strength of artistic dedication and ability. Criteria required for selection include: an application form, portfolio review, performance, interviews, and two written letters of recommendation; one from a Fine Arts teacher and one from a nonrelative outside the educational field. Refer to guidelines pertaining to the discipline listed below. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. 2. A panel of specialists knowledgeable of the various fine arts disciplines will serve as judges for the scholarship award selection process. Applicants will perform/or present their portfolios followed by an interview with the judges. The scholarship will be awarded to a single recipient and the decision of the judges is final. 3. All parts of the application must be submitted to the High School Scholarship Counselors office on February 12, 2018. All finalists will be invited for live auditions and /or portfolio presentations, including an interview. The auditions and interviews will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018. The times for the interview will be given to the scholarship counselor at each high school. The final selection process will be completed by the end of April. 4. The recipient of the Wynn Handman Theatre Scholarship will be honored during the Centre of Performing and Visual Arts’ Hall of Fame Ceremony, Tuesday, June 12, 2018. The recipient must be present and will be expected to perform during that event. The scholarship recipient will also be recognized at his or her high school’s Award Ceremony. 5. The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the educational institution of the student’s choice. Any scholarship monies not requested will be forfeited.

THEATRE GUIDELINES 1. Submit a resume of theatre experiences including classes taken and performances given either in a school or a community setting. 2. Applicants in theatre performance will perform two monologs selected from plays of merit which demonstrate a range of performance ability. Monologs must not be selected from standalone monolog books ,e.g. Monologs for Teens, unless the monolog comes from a play. It is not necessary for the characters portrayed to be the same age range as the applicant. In the interview, the applicant should be prepared to discuss his/her approach to preparing and performing the pieces, as well as his/her experiences, growth and goals in theatre. 3. Applicants in technical theatre will present a portfolio of their work in theatre. The portfolio should include at least two examples of design work(set, costumes, props, lights, etc.). If the student has a sketchbook, he/she should present that as part of the portfolio. In the interview, the applicant should be prepared to discuss his/her experiences, growth and goals in technical theatre.
