What is “PawsLikeMe Re-Homing Program” anyway? PawsLikeMe is the first of its kind, dedicated virtual pet re-homing service. We help pets Nationwide that need to find new homes. PawsLikeMe aligns closely with the No-Kill movement, in the belief that pets should be kept out of shelters. To that extent, we offer committed, responsible owners, the opportunity to showcase their pet on PawsLikeMe and provide all the tools necessary to get the word out through built in marketing channels, guided advice, dedicated tools, and a proven matching system that targets your pet’s best possible new home. We know and respect that your situation is probably time-sensitive and will make every effort to help you find a great new home quickly.

Participation Requirements 

To post a pet, you must be at least 18 years old.



The animal must be spay/neutered prior to going to its new home. Unfortunately, we do not offer our re-homing service to unaltered pets. However, we do provide vouchers towards spay/neuter at designated low-cost clinics. Vouchers are provided once the pet is adopted on PawsLikeMe. A pet is a family member and all members need to be in agreement about when to rehome a pet, and who the right adopter will be.



Adopters must comply with pet laws governing their State or Region, such as Rabies inoculations.

Online Tools and Service 

PawsLikeMe does not have a shelter or facility. Our service, tools, and guidance are provided entirely online, and are designed to get the right pets into the right homes – fast. We do not take responsibility for the pet; instead, we empower people who have pets that need homes - by providing creative marketing and networking opportunities. We function as your dedicated guide, offering the tools, knowledge and guidance to find a new home that you are comfortable with, and that will hopefully remain a permanent placement for your pet. We aim to make the process as easy as possible, and alleviate some of the stress and doubt associated with this very sensitive experience.



Posting your pet on PawsLikeMe is a choice we hope you make in the best interest of your pet. The unfortunate reality is that often 50% of pets that enter US shelters are euthanized, many simply due to lack of space. The other 50% may face challenges such as depression and anxiety related to cage confinement, lack of human interaction, and feelings of abandonment. Statistically, the longer a pet stays in a shelter, the more likely they are to experience these behavioral issues as a result. In contrast, a pet that goes from home to home with a smooth transition is likely to experience a very short adjustment period and a much more positive and confident beginning in their new home.



PawsLikeMe is committed to researching (on an ongoing basis) the best ways to market your pet and gain the necessary exposure to find your pet a good home. Our service is personalized for your pet’s specific needs and yours.



PawsLikeMe was founded by a team of two former pet rescue founders, a Veterinarian and Social worker. All active technologists. The re-homing service is modeled after best practices used by rescue organizations nationally. The team’s combined 20+ years of experience in pet adoption and re-homing is a direct benefit to you and your pet.

Pet Adoption Fee 

Posting your pet through PawsLikeMe is free however; an adoption fee will be charged to the adopter and will be collected by PawsLikeMe. It’s important that an adoption fee be collected to ensure your safety and safety of your pet. This fee will be collected from the potential adopter before you meet them to ensure the safety of the transaction and the seriousness of the inquiry.



The adoption fee will be split between PawsLikeMe to help fund future adoptions, and to a fund that supports dog rescues and shelters. Your choice of selecting a PawsLikeMe adoption goes a long way to help eliminate the euthanasia rates across the country!

Pet Returns 

In the rare event that an adopter wants to return a pet, PawsLikeMe will first reach out to the previous owner to see if they are willing to take the pet back and try again. The previous owner is not required to take back the pet, and if they opt not to, PawsLikeMe will work with the adoptive family to find a new home again through the rehoming service.



PawsLikeMe does not have the ability to take-in returned pets, but we will always make every effort to assist with rehoming.

What to Expect 

The PawsLikeMe system pre-filters pets to target a match between the adoptive home and the pet. Our proven algorithm is over 90% accurate in predicting people-to-pet compatibility.



Adopters can save their online application and use it to submit for multiple pets.



If applicants have a dog or other pet at home, we encourage a meeting with the new pet before adoption.



If applicants have children at home, we encourage them to be as informed as possible about the pet’s behavior with kids. Most pets are kid-friendly.

Participation Requirements 

Adopters must be 18 years of age.



Anyone renting or leasing should have approval or written permission from their landlord before an adoption. Any restrictions regarding type or size of animal must be noted.



We do not adopt to homes wanting "outdoor pets." Pets that are left outside do not bond as readily with their owners and are prone to behaviors like barking, escaping, roaming, digging, and predatory behavior. If applicants currently have an "outdoor pet" their adoption may be denied.
