Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2004 im Fachbereich Kunst - Architektur, Baugeschichte, Denkmalpflege, Note: 1,7, Technische Universität Dresden (Institut für Kunstgeschichte), Veranstaltung: Hauptseminar, 25 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe gilt als einer der namhaftesten deutschen Architekten des 20. Jahrhunderts und Wegbereiter der Modernen Architektur. Wahre Baukunst war für ihn nicht der Mode unterworfen, aber auch nicht gültig bis in alle Ewigkeit. Jedes Gebäude sollte den treibenden Kräften seiner Zeit geschuldet werden: der Massengesellschaft, der Wirtschaftsordnung und der Technologie. Kunst war für ihn nicht das willkürlich Neue, sondern das Ergebnis einer geordneten Struktur. Konstruktion, Material, Transparenz und Ästhetik bildeten bei seinen Werken stets eine Einheit. Die gesamte architektonische Konstruktion basiert auf einem Rastersystem und dem Goldenen Schnitt. Edle Materialien wurden sorgsam ausgewählt und perfekt verarbeitet. Dieses wohlüberlegte, nachvollziehbare Bauen und Mies’ Persönlichkeit weckten das Interesse vieler seiner Kollegen. Der große Einfluss, den Mies van der Rohe auf mehrere Architektengenerationen ausübte macht eine Beschäftigung mit seinen Gebäuden besonders interessant. Obwohl seine Karriere in Deutschland begann, ist er vor allem in den USA bekannt geworden, wo er fünf Jahre nach der Machtergreifung durch die Nationalsozialisten nach Chicago ins Exil ging. Durch den Bau der Neuen Nationalgalerie kommt er erstmals wieder in sein Heimatland zurück. Mit diesem Bauauftrag wird ihm nun die Anerkennung zuteil, die ihm durch die Machthaber zuvor verwehrt wurde. Die Nationalgalerie beherbergt zu dieser Zeit vor allem die Kunst des 19. Jahrhunderts, der sich Mies verbunden fühlte. Der Name „Neue Nationalgalerie“ unterstreicht sowohl den nationalen, als auch den zukunftsorientierten Anspruch dieses wichtigen öffentlichen Gebäudes. Er ist auch als politisches Signal an den Ostteil Berlins zu sehen, wo die „alte“ Nationalgalerie lag. Die Gründe seines Exils und die Motivation der Auftraggeber ihn nach Deutschland zu holen, beschreibe ich genauer im ersten Kapitel. Die Nationalgalerie basiert auf der Konstruktion früherer Mies’scher Bauten. Abgesehen vom Einfluss von Friedrich Schinkel und der Antike, lässt sich das Gebäude auf einzelne, von Mies van der Rohe selber konstruierte, Entwürfe zurückführen. Die vier wichtigsten Vorgängerbauten werden in Kapitel zwei vorgestellt. Beeindruckend ist dabei die unglaubliche Stringenz, mit der der Architekt die grundlegenden Ideen zum Bau dieses Gebäudes entwickelt, welches einen End- und Höhepunkt seiner Karriere darstellt. ● ● ● ●
