Welcome to Personal Finance Course Content Personal Finance is a half year, state mandated course open to 10th-12th grade students. The class incorporates interdisciplinary concepts such as math and writing within the framework of project based experiences in personal finance. The use of technology is emphasized throughout the course. Course Outline Unit 1: Income - Learning to Earn Financial Decisions, Goals, and Values - College & Career Planning - Influences on Buying Decisions (4) - The Necessities Unit 2: Budgeting Financial Planning - Budgeting - Online Banking Unit 3: Personal Banking Commercial vs. Credit Union - Savings and Checking Accounts Unit 4: Credit and Debt Credit: Helpful or Hurtful? - Using Credit Wisely Student Assessment Unit 5: Investing Tests/Quizzes 25% Types of Investments - Ways to Invest Marking Period Project 1 – Portfolio Marking Period Project 2 – Life in the United States

Class Materials: ❏ Three ring binder & tabbed dividers to separate and label materials for each unit covered. Projects: Personal Finance includes a major project which consists of extensive analysis of a situation and a culminating class presentation. Students have the option of working within a group, or working individually. Project requirements and grading rubrics will be presented in class. 21st Century Skills Technology - During this course you will use websites, web-based financial software, smart phones, internet research, and spreadsheets on a regular basis. Communication – During this course you will utilize the teacher’s website, discuss current events, incorporate multimedia into projects and assignments, and use real world experiences to relate to matters of personal financial responsibility. Civic & Social – During this course you will learn about and practice ethical behavior and personal financial responsibility. Problem Solving – During this course you will analyze scenarios and complex financial situations that require financial decisions and situational analysis to demonstrate fiscal responsibility. Absences: When a student falls behind he/she will need to make up the missing assignments during a study hall or after school. I am available for extra help/make up work before and after school so please see me to arrange for time to work together. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of and make up work they are missing!
