PEYOTE PINCUSHION

You will need: Yarn: “Ambre” by Cheval Blanc, 70% bamboo, 30% cotton, 50g=150m (or any other to fit gauge), ca. 20m. Filling: wool, cotton or synthetic fiber. 2 small flat buttons (or 1 flat and one decorative). A set of 4 double-pointed needles, metric size – 2,5mm (UK size 12.5, US size 1.5), or the size to match the yarn of your choice. A big-eye needle, a common needle and ca. 60cm of strong thread (colour matching that of the yarn or the buttons). Gauge: 10cm=28 stitches (stockinette stitch). The pincushion is made of two separate parts knitted in rounds. The diameter of the pincushion is ca. 5cm. Pattern: stockinette stitch: knit all rounds. k – knit k2tog – knit two stitches together The top: Cast on 45 stitches on two needles, gently pull one needle out, distribute the stitches equally on 3 needles. Knit 5 rounds in stockinette stitch. Place a stitch marker on the 1st, 10th, 18th, 27th and 36th stitches. Now you have 5 sectors of 9 stitches each. Round 6: *k7, k2tog*, repeat from * (40 stitches left). Round 7: k all stitches. Round 8: *k6, k2tog*, repeat from * (35 stitches left). Round 9: k all stitches. Round 10: *k5, k2tog*, repeat from * (30 stitches left). Round 11: k all stitches. Round 12: *k4, k2tog*, repeat from * (25 stitches left). Round 13: k all stitches. Round 14: *k3, k2tog*, repeat from * (20 stitches left). Round 15: k all stitches. Round 16: *k2, k2tog*, repeat from * (15 stitches left). Round 17: *k1, k2tog*, repeat from * (10 stitches left). Round 18: *k2tog*, repeat from *(5 stitches left). Cut the thread leaving a 15cm tail and pull it through the remaining 5 stitches several times. Stitch to the wrong side, knot and weave in tail. The bottom: Cast on 45 stitches on two needles, gently pull one needle out, distribute the stitches equally on 3 needles. Place a stitch marker on the 1st, 10th, 18th, 27th and 36th stitches. Now you have 5 sectors of 9 stitches each. Round 1: *k7, k2tog*, repeat from * (40 stitches left). Round 2: *k6, k2tog*, repeat from * (35 stitches left). Round 3: *k5, k2tog*, repeat from * (30 stitches left). Round 4: *k4, k2tog*, repeat from * (25 stitches left). Round 5: *k3, k2tog*, repeat from * (20 stitches left). Round 6: *k2, k2tog*, repeat from * (15 stitches left). Round 7: *k1, k2tog*, repeat from * (10 stitches left). Round 8: *k2tog*, repeat from *(5 stitches left).
