Installing the new PowerTeacher 2.8 Gradebook Launcher, STEP-BY-STEP YOU ONLY NEED TO USE THE INSTALLER THE FIRST TIME YOU USE THE GRADEBOOK ON A PARTICULAR COMPUTER AT SCHOOL OR AT HOME. After that, just use the new Desktop Icon to launch the gradebook or use the blue “Launch” button in PowerTeacher. The new installer allows the Gradebook to be used without worrying about Java update issues.
1. Login to PowerTeacher normally. (Instructions for district service logins at https://sites.google.com/site/isd30tech/home/manuals/logins)
2. Click the blue “Installer” link above the Launch button. 3. An Install screen appears with step-by-step instructions for Windows or Apple computers. For Windows, click “Download Installer”
4. An installer file will begin downloading. You can EITHER continue with this handout for the installation OR you can follow the on-screen instructions in PowerTeacher, clicking the Next buttons in PowerTeacher as you go through the installation.
5. In some browsers you may need to click on the installer file you downloaded to start it running. A security warning may appear; if so, click “Run”
6. You will be asked where to install the launcher. Just click “Install”.
7. The installer will run for awhile, extracting various files. When it is finished, click Next.
8. Instructions will appear. After reading them, click “Finish”.
9. You will want to return to PowerTeacher and click the blue “Launch” button in the left sidebar to launch the Gradebook. If the Gradebook does not launch, it will at least download a file called “LaunchGradebook.ptg” which you can open to launch the Gradebook. 10. There should also now be a new Gradebook Login shortcut on your desktop. Just click it, whether you are logged into PowerTeacher or not, to launch the Gradebook.
NOTE: The new Gradebook Login icon, unlike the regular PowerTeacher login, is CASE-SENSITIVE on the username and password. If your username is rejected, try capitalizing your last name and initials. For example, if Jane K. Doe cannot login using the username “joedk” then she should try using “JoeDK” instead. The same issue occurs with the PowerTeacher iPad app.
