Early Release April 12th Our April Early Release Day will occur on Thursday, April 12 th. Students will be released at 1:30 PM for staff professional development. If your child’s method of transportation home on this day changes due to the early release, please notify your child’s teacher and the school office.

All School Picnic April 27th Parents/Guardians and other family members are welcome to join your child for lunch at our Spring All School Picnic on Friday, April 27th during your child’s lunch time. The cost is $3.35 for an adult lunch and the menu will consist of grilled hot dog on a bun or yogurt, Cheetos, apple slices or baby carrots and milk or juice. We ask that all parents/guardians and other family members who wish to attend, please RSVP by using the form that was in your child’s Friday Folder on March 30th or by calling Mrs. Hedrick, Food Service Manager at 816.359.4386.

No School April 13th There is no school on Friday, April 13th. Classes will resume on Monday, April 16th.

2018-2019 Class Placement Feedback The staff at Prairie point will soon begin to look at and determine class placements for the 2018-2019 school year. The Park Hill School District assigns students to their next year class through collaborative efforts of their current classroom teacher, specials teachers, counselor, assistant principal and principal. When applicable, special education teachers, intervention specialists, and ELL teachers also provide input. Many factors are considered throughout the process of creating balanced classroom groups, including: learning styles, gender equity, academic achievement level, behavior, study and work habits, and peer relations.

Last Day of School Due to inclement weather days, our last day of school will be Wednesday, May 30th.

During this process, parent/guardian requests for specific classroom teachers are not accepted and parents/guardians cannot request a teacher by name. If you would like to provide feedback for your child’s placement, you may fill out a Student Information Feedback Sheet that is available for you to pick up in the Prairie Point office. Parents/guardians may fill out this form to provide any feedback regarding their child’s class placement for next year. Teachers will review this form while working on classroom groupings, so please do not include information about teachers on this sheet. Instead, please focus your comments solely on your child’s needs. If you have multiple children in the school, please complete a separate form for each child. If you would like to provide feedback for staff, please stop by the office and complete and return the form to your child’s teacher by Friday, April 13th.

Volunteers Needed for Field Day Our annual fun filled Field Day is planned for Friday, May 18 th. Students in grades K-2 will participate in Field Day in the morning and students in grades 3-5 will participate in Field Day in the afternoon. 3-5th Grade MAP Testing MAP Testing for grades 3-5 is quickly approaching. If you have a student in grades 3-5, we thank you in advance for having your child at school and on time for testing days. It is for the benefit of the student that they are taking the assessment in the comfort of their own classroom instead of having to be pulled from class to make up the assessment. Here are the Prairie Point MAP testing dates:

Prairie Point WATCH D.O.G.S. Prairie Point is looking for more WATCH D.O.G.S. to volunteer this semester! Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school. Watch D.O.G. dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunchroom, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling. What Does Respect Look Like? Your youngsters daily dealings with adults and kids alike will be more pleasant if he speaks and acts respectfully. Try these tips for helping him learn about respect. Respect replies Think about something that you and your youngster disagree on (say, whether his video game time should be limited). Model having a respectful discussion about it. You might say that his brain and body are growing and that he needs to run and play to stay healthy. Then, suggest a respectful response, such as “I want to be healthy, but I love video games.” Have him brainstorm other situations where people have different opinions but still speak to each other with respect. Everyday Acts When you mow the lawn or clean up after your dog, you can teach your child about respect for neighbors. Explain that keeping your neighborhood clean and neat makes it nice for everyone. Ask him to think of other respectful things neighbors should do. If you share an apartment laundry room, he might say that you respect neighbors’ time by removing your clothes when they’re done so others get to use the washers and dryers.

Save the Date…Kindergarten Round Up Save the date, Monday, April 30, 2018 Enroll your kindergartner today, then mark your calendar for the Kindergarten Roundup event to be held on Monday, April 30th. Families with children entering kindergarten in the Park Hill School District in August 2018 may enroll now by visiting Prairie Point Elementary School between 7:45 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday on days when school is in session. Children who turn five on or before July 31 are eligible for kindergarten for the 2018-2019 school year. Parents will need to bring their children’s certified, state-issued birth certificate, immunization records and two proofs of residency to enroll. One proof of residency must be a current paid real estate tax receipt, a lease or mortgage agreement, or a new construction contract. The other should be an original and current gas, electric or water bill on which the name and address are provided. After you enroll, mark your calendar for the Kindergarten Roundup event at Prairie Point Elementary School on Monday, April 30. Our Kindergarten Roundup is an Open House format (5:30-7:30 p.m.). Parents and student will get a sneak peak of our school, tour the building, ask questions and get to know the staff.
