PRIMARY RESEARCH  “Occurring or existing first in a sequence of events; belonging to the beginning or earliest stage of something; first in time.”  Involves collecting data about a given subject directly from the real world. It includes details about interviews, surveys observation, analysis ethnographic research.  Any type of research that you go out and collect yourself.

FIRST-HAND INFORMATION AND ORIGINAL DATA

 Interviews, diaries, letters, journals, speeches  Autobiographies  Articles with original research, data, or new findings

 Government documents and public records.  Art, maps, photographs, films, and music  Artifacts, buildings, furniture clothing.

ADVANTAGES OF PRIMARY RESEARCH  Provides direct feedback from customers and potential customers

 Research can be tailored to the needs of the business  Make possible a more in-depth analysis of the market  Generates information that is not available to competitors

DISADVANTAGES OF PRIMARY RESEARCH  May be very expensive  Primary data collection require the development and execution of a research plan.  Offering information that could prove quite valuable.  Take a long time  Low response rate has to be expected

SECONDARY RESEARCH  Also known as desk research  Is the act of gathering data that already exists  Also define as an analysis and interpretation a primary research  Secondary research is useful when you need broad information on a topic.  A summary or collection of existing data.

TYPE OF SECONDARY RESEARCH  Textbooks  Review article  Biographies  Historical films, music and art.

 Article about people and events from the past.
