Professional Development Activities (PDA) List Physical Therapists Effective November 1, 2016

Category I

Professional Development Activities List *30 Points for every 2-year renewal, at least 15 points must be from Category I

(15 point minimum, no maximum) *must be directly relevant to licensee's practice and pertinent to Goals Possible Activities Number of Points Continuing education meeting the 1 contact hour = 1 point Board’s Category I Standards * See the online document Board Standards for Continuing Education Activities Coursework from a regionally 10 points per credit hour accredited college/university Coursework towards a transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree

Completion of the online continuing competence learning and assessment tool oPTtion administered by FSBPT, or another Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (AKS) preapproved by the Board. Completion of a residency or fellowship accredited through APTA Completion of specialist certification/ recertification process through American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) (e.g. Geriatric Certified Specialist, Orthopedic Certified Specialist) Completion of Induction Process for Special Services License from the Colorado Department of Education Primary instructor in a continuing education course that is a Category I course “Read for Credit” in a professionally recognized peer-reviewed journal – must include a testing component that is provided by the journal itself, e.g. Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy (JOSPT), The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS), etc.

10 points for each occurrence – maximum of 10 points in a 10-year cycle

Required Documentation Transcript from a college/university that is not regionally accredited indicating successful completion of course Verification of attendance including number of contact hours and event date

Continuing Education Courses which do NOT meet the Board’s Category I Standards *See the online document Board Standards for Continuing Education Activities Primary instructor in a continuing education course that is not a Category I course Other Learning Experiences

Professional journal club with 3 or more attendees

Formal mentoring relationship (mentor or protégé) Reading a scientific article or a chapter in a professional book

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) /Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)/Basic Life Support (BLS) or First Aid certification or recertification

Platform or Poster presentation, or panel discussion member at a professional meeting Presenting a workplace in-service Teaching in a nonprofessional/community setting (to members of the public) Service Committee Chair, Board member or office holder in a professional organization related to physical therapy practice. Responsibilities must go beyond committee membership Community Service within scope of profession (e.g. Health Fair, Pro Bono care, balance/falls assessment, global health service)
