INTRODUCING THE BVSD PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PATHWAYS We welcome you to our new Professional Learning Pathways. This takes the place of our old District‐PD days in the past. Our new, research‐based approach (The Mirage Report;  Bruce Joyce & Barb Showers) will provide opportunity for: CHOICE FLEXIBILITY FOCUS AND IMMERSION Through Professional Learning Pathways, teachers will have the opportunity to select a pathway, or course, in which to engage throughout the en re district‐designated days. Although there are op ons for content‐based learning, teachers now have the opportunity to explore other aspects of Educator   Eﬀec veness  standards. As teachers, you can choose a pathway that supports students with speciﬁc needs, oﬀer  strategies for interdisciplinary teaching, or other learning that meets the needs of your own individual  professional growth goals. Our hope is that by oﬀering a comprehensive list of courses, and more me to focus on one par cular   interest or need, you will have the opportunity to see the in‐depth instruc onal changes and growth you have been yearning for, and ul mately feel that you can provide even be er educa onal spaces for   students. We are excited to oﬀer this new model to you. We hope it honors you as professionals and provides you the space to engage in learning that meets your needs. Computer Science Can Fit Into Your Student's Day!

Ann Root, BVSD's very own Code.org facilitator, will provide an intro to computer science, pedagogy, overview of the online curriculum, teacher dashboard, and strategies for teaching “unplugged” classroom ac vi es. Adapta on and Varia on in Colorado mammals: A new classroom kit for 4th grade

Descrip on:

We are developing a new “Classroom Kit” for 4th grade classrooms to learn about Biological evolu on by exploring the natural history of na ve Colorado mammals. Classroom Kits, developed by the CU Museum of Natural History, are collec ons of materials and ac vi es on a par cular theme. They allow students to perform hands‐on inves ga ons of objects and the materials get to stay with teachers permanently. Training during this Pathways course will include founda onal content for the mammal kit, modeling of select lessons/ac vi es included in the kit, discussion me with colleagues for adap ng lessons and   ac vi es to your classroom, as well as me to plan.

Digital Storytelling

Descrip on:

Par cipants will create meaningful and engaging storytelling experiences that empower student voice and choice. Par cipants will learn hands‐on video crea on tools such as WeVideo, Wixie, Voicethread, Google Apps and more! We will walk through the process of crea ng a digital story (brainstorming, script development, etc.) and discuss how to access fair‐use and free media (images, videos, music for   soundtracks, sound eﬀects) to embellish ﬁnal products. Forma ve Assessments are when kids learn something by expending some eﬀort as the teacher   facilitates. Par cipants will learn about the beneﬁts and methods of forma ve assessments. Our main focus will be with programs that display exemplars to the class in real me ‐ like Peardeck. Par cipants will interact with presenta ons from their colleagues showing the beneﬁts of their own forma ve   assessments, and methods for using their favorite systems.
