COMMUNITY
The town of Burlington is a middle-class, suburban community of approximately 24,320 persons. Located 10 miles north of Boston, it is in the middle of “America’s Technology Highway”, the I-95/ Route 128 inner-loop. The population is primarily composed of professional families vitally interested in supporting academic excellence.
SCHOOL Burlington High School is a public, 4-year college preparatory high school. The vast majority of its 88 teaching faculty & staff members hold a master’s degree or higher. Total Enrollment 2014-2015: 987 Class of 2015 (total): 254 Teacher-Student Ratio: 1:18
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS The academic year is divided into 2 semesters. Semester courses receive 2.5 credits & year-long classes receive 5 credits. 110 credits are required for graduation & must include: English 4 yrs Social Studies 3 yrs (including US History I & II; World History II) Science 3 yrs (including 1 yr Life Science; 1 yr Physical Science) Mathematics 4 yrs Foreign Language 2 yrs Health 2 semesters Physical Education 4 yrs Electives: 10 additional credits from arts, business, family, consumer science, & interdisciplinary areas Notes: • The required 10 elective credits are only available at the CP I level.
• AP courses are ONLY available junior and senior year. • ALL science classes include lab experiences due to a daily long block. • Burlington High School has dual enrollment agreements with Middlesex Community College and Bay Path University.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum offers a broad selection of courses at varying instructional levels to meet the needs and abilities of all students. Individual programs of study are planned around a core of required subjects in accordance with educational objectives. In addition, over 20 students participate in Virtual High School (GOVHS.org) at the AP, Honors and College Prep levels. Virtual High School is noted on the transcript as VHS. Advanced Placement courses are offered in English Literature, English Language & Composition, US History, World History, Psychology, Calculus BC, Calculus AB, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics C, Spanish Language, Computer Science A & Studio Art. STANDARDIZED TEST RESULTS
A student’s cumulative grade point average (GPA) is based on performance in all leveled, graded classes and computed to the nearest thousandth. GPA & class rank are computed annually commencing at the conclusion of sophomore year and determined by the grade and weight below.
