Arvada West High School Profile 2016-2017 THE COMMUNITY Arvada is a suburban residential community of 105,000 people. The students generally come from low average to high-income families where parents are predominantly employed in small businesses and other professions. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT The Jefferson County School District covers 780 square miles. It borders on the west of the city of Denver. There are 91 elementary schools, 25 middle schools and 20 senior high schools serving approximately 85,000 students. THE SCHOOL Arvada West is a comprehensive, public high school with an enrollment of 1750 students in grades nine through twelve. Our school motto is “Excellence is our Expectation.” We provide professional instruction and support so that all students can learn and excel. Curricular offerings reflect a broad range of courses from modified to honors or advanced placement. 10% of the student population receives special education services. GRADE VALUES Arvada West High School operates on a 4.0 grading scale. Students will be given weighted credit for classes with an AP designation. This will allow students to earn a cumulative GPA of greater than 4.0. AP courses are awarded credit on a 5.0 scale.
