Grade Center 101: The Essentials Create a Gradable Column

Create a Calculated Column

This feature creates a column where grades are manually entered and manipulated.

This feature creates a column in which the system outputs a value based on a calculation of one or more columns. The types of calculated columns available for creation include: Average, Minimum/Maximum, Total, and Weighted.

1.

Click on Create a Column.

Note: A blank form will appear. 2.

Complete the form.

Click on Submit.

Place your mouse pointer over Create Calculated Column, and then click on the type of column you want to create.

Sort by an Individual Column The contents of a column can be sorted to appear in ascending or descending order. 1.

Click on the column title.

If desired, click on the column title again to sort in the alternate order (ascending or descending).

Complete the form.

Click on Submit.

Edit Multiple Columns Simultaneously Certain functions can be performed on multiple columns at one time. These functions include: showing/hiding, changing categories, changing grading periods, and/or setting custom sort orders. 1.

Place your mouse pointer over Manage, and then click on Column Organization.

2.

Click the check box next to the column(s) you want to edit.

3.

Complete the desired task:

 Show or Hide Columns Ascending

Descending

 Change Categories  Change Grading Periods

Organize Column Order

 Set Custom Sort Order  Reorder Columns

Columns can be sorted to appear in various orders, including: Layout Position, Categories, Due Date, Date Created, Points Possible, or Display Name. Additionally, columns may be sorted in either ascending or descending order. 1.

Place your mouse pointer over the drop-down arrow next to Sort Columns By, and then select the order in which you want the columns sorted by.

If desired, place your mouse over the drop-down arrow next to Order and select the desired sort order (Ascending or Descending).

Hide or Show Rows Rows can be hidden and shown in the Grade Center. 1. Place your mouse pointer over Manage, and then click on Row Visibility. 2. Click on the check box(es) next to the row(s) you want to show or hide. 3. Click on Show or Hide Rows as needed. 4. Click on Submit.

Action Bar Create Column: Creates a column that represents a gradable item in the course. Create Calculated Column: Provides the ability to create a column that will perform a calculation of other gradable columns. Calculation types include the following: Average, Minimum/Maximum, Total, or Weighted.

Manage: Allows for the management of various items in the Grade Center. Including: Grading Periods, Schemas, Color Codes, Categories, Smart Views, Column Organization, Row Visibility, Send Emails, Manage Pearson MyLab & Mastering Grades, WileyPLUS Grade Refresh. Reports: Create reports based on grade criteria. Also for viewing grade history.

Managing Users Move to Top: Allows the reorder of enrolled users within the Grade Center. Email: Provides the ability to email specific users.

Column Position, Sorting, and Order Permits the columns to appear in various orders, including: Layout Position, Categories, Due Date, Date Created, Points Possible, or Display Name. Additionally, columns may be sorted in either ascending or descending order.

Icon Legend There are several icons that may appear within the Grade Center. Depending on the icon, they will appear in one of three location: next to the column title, next to a grade, or in the grade cell.

Filter: Provides the ability to filter the current Grade Center view based on user-defined criteria. It also allows for setting the default Grade Center view. Discover available.

Work Offline: Provides options to upload content from outside of WebCampus or download the items in the Grade Center into a delimited file.

Individual Column Management Various options are provided for each column via a contextual drop-down menu. The options presented vary based on the type of column. Non-gradable and non-calculated columns can be sorted and hidden from instructor view. These columns are not visible to students. Manually created gradable and calculated columns can be sorted, hidden from instructor and/or student views, and deleted. Options are also given to view information about the column, view and add alignments, view grade history, edit column information, view column statistics, and set as external grade. System generated Assignment and Test columns can be sorted, and hidden from instructor and/or student views. Options are also given to view information about the column, view and add alignments, grade attempts, grade with user names hidden, download assignment file, assignment file cleanup, view grade history, edit column information, view column statistics, set as external grade, and clear attempts for all users.
