Introduction

Relay  plug  has  a  electromagnetic  relay  with driver circuit which enables the user  to  control  High  power  circuit  from  a  low power circuit. Both high power AC loads  as  well  as  DC  loads  can  easily  be  controlled  with  this  plug. This  plug  also  has  an  LED  associated  with  relay  which  represents  the  status  of  the  relay  i.e.,  when  the  relay is activated LED turns ON.    Note:  Please  keep  in  mind  that  this  plug  is  really  meant  for  someone  with  experience and good knowledge of electricity.    There  are  two  types  of  relay  plugs  namely  A-type  and  B-type.  The  only  difference  between  these types of plugs is that A-type relay plugs have the relay  terminals as an output port whereas B-type relay plugs have two separate output  ports for high power supply and the high power load.

The above picture shows A-type relay plug.

  Details

The  Relay  plug  contains  all  the  necessary  circuit  you  need  to  get  your  high-power  load  under  control.  The  relay  driver  circuit  has  a  transistor  equipped  with  free  wheeling  diode  to  protect  the  transistor  from  back  EMF.  Hence  relay  can  be  easily  controlled  by  5V  logic  from  any  digital  circuit  and  an  LED indicator  tells you when the relay is activated.    The  relay  plug  has  Screw  terminal  connectors  on  one  side  of  the  plug  which  makes it easy to incorporate into many projects..    Relay  plug  is  a  digital  output  device.  It  has  a  interfacing  port  with  three  pins  named  as  G,  V  &  D.  Here  G  represents  Ground  ,  V  represents  VCC  and  D  represents Data pin through which relay can be controlled.  To  activate  the  relay  Plug  the  corresponding  data  pin  on  the  controller  board  to  which the relay plug data pin is connected must be made HIGH and to deactivate  the relay plug, the data pin must be set to LOW.    Every  relay  has  five  terminals  out  of  which  three  terminals  are  named  as  C,  NO  and  NC.  The  remaining  two  terminals  are  from  the  coil  which  generates  the  magnetic field when current is supplied to it.    ● Common  contact  (  C  ):  This  pin  gets  connected  to  NO  pin  when  the  relay  is  activated  and  it  gets  connected  to  NC  pin  when  the  relay  is  deactivated.   ● Normally  Open  Contact  (NO):  NO  contact  is  also  called ‘make contact’.  It  closes  the  circuit  when  the  relay  is  activated.  It  disconnects  the  circuit  when the relay is inactive.  ● Normally  Closed Contact (NC): NC  contact  is  also  known  as  ‘break  contact’.  When  the  relay  is  activated,  the  circuit  disconnects.  When  the  relay is deactivated, the circuit connects.    Elint Labz (www.elintlabz.in)

How to interface?

Use  either  of  the  supported  cables  to  connect  this  relay  plug  to  the  controller  board.  If  4-3A  cable  is  to  be  used  then  3pin  end  of  the  cable  is  connected  the  relay  plug  and  4pin  end  of  the  cable  is  connected to the controller board. If 3-3A  cable  is  to  be  used  then  either  of  the  cable  can  be  connected  to  the  relay  plug.  Always ensure that black wire of the cable is connected to the G pin.    In  the  below  given  pictures  one can see 4-3A cable is used to connect relay plug  to  the  Pluguino  Board.  The  data  pin  of  the  relay  plug  is  connected  to  the  6th  GPIO  pin  on  the controller board. By controlling the voltage at the 6th GPIO pin of  the controller board one can control the relay.
