RESPONSE TO QUERY ONLY REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER NOT PERMITTED TO LIVE IN BASE HOUSING ON SCOTT A registered sex offender within the county of St. Clair, Ill., was discovered living on base here without proper authority to do so. Because of an inability to offer the offender and his family a home outside of the 500-foot cordon, he will not be permitted to remain on base. The 73-year-old registered sex offender, who’s the father of an Air Force officer residing on base, is solely responsible in ensuring that he lives in a home that complies with Illinois state law. Illinois law stipulates that registered sex offenders may not reside in a home within 500 feet of a school, playground or a facility providing daycare programs or services. It is the responsibility of the offender to register accurate information with the county sheriff’s department in which they reside. St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, the county in which Scott Air Force Base resides, has sole responsibility for sex offender registration and notifications within their county. All questions regarding sex offender registration and notifications should be directed to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.
