A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLYDE HILL, WASHINGTON OPPOSING PRESIDENT’ TRUMP’S JANUARY 27, 2017 EXECUTIVE ORDER WHEREAS, on January 27, 2017, President Trump signed an Executive Order entitled “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into The United States;” and WHEREAS, said Executive Order suspends the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program as well as entry into the United States by certain immigrants and non-immigrants; and WHEREAS, major employers in the vicinity of the City of Clyde Hill have joined the State of Washington in demonstrating to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington the existence of immediate harm to their employees and their business interests as a result of the Executive Order; and WHEREAS, the implementation of said Executive Order has and will impose severe hardship, not only in the locality of the City of Clyde Hill but more broadly throughout King County, the State of Washington, and the United States, upon refugees as well as immigrants and non-immigrants travelling to or already legally resident within the United States; and WHEREAS, the City Council, the people of the City of Clyde Hill, and the City Staff wish to express their support for our major local employers and our heartfelt support for refugees, and to acknowledge the past and continuing contributions made to the City of Clyde Hill by immigrants of all lands, races, and creeds; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CLYDE HILL, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The City Council opposes President Trump’s Executive Order of January 27, 2017 and expresses its support for our local employers and for those affected individuals attempting to gain what would be otherwise legal entry or re-entry into the United States under visas validly issued by the U.S. Department of State upon satisfaction of the Department’s lawful and establish screening and related procedures.
