Retina Engrave USB Firmware Update RetinaEngrave cards may be one of three configurations. Inspect your card and observe the following, comparing your sample with the cards seen below: 1. Upgradeable (LED Light on left side of USB connector) 2. Upgradeable (LED Light on right side of connector, bright green appearance, LED is larger than the resistor R15 beside it) 3. Non-Upgradeable (LED Light on right side of connector, faint yellow-green appearance, LED is the same size as the resistor R15 beside it)

If your card resembles Card 3 above, observe the flash chip. If “Winbond” is etched on the chip, your card is not upgradeable and must be sent in for flashing/repair at our standard labor rate. If “Atmel” is etched on the chip, your card is upgradeable.

If your card resembles 1 or 2, or if your flash chip is labeled “Atmel,” you may upgrade your firmware. 1. If currently running RetinaEngrave 3.52 software, download and run this update to version 4.01: http://www.fullspectrumengineering.com/Protected/UpdateFirmware3-52to4-01.exe The username/password is included with your laser paperwork. 2. If running 4.01 or later (or you have upgraded to 4.01 during the previous step), unplug/reinsert the USB cable into the PC, ensure RetinaEngrave 4.01 shows “Connected”. When updating from 3.52, you must uninstall 3.52 and install 4.01 to continue the update procedure. 3. Navigate to our download page to obtain new software: http://fslaser.com/resources/softwaremanual-downloads. The username/password is included with your laser paperwork. 4. “.BIN” files are included with these downloads. Within RetinaEngrave 4.01 or higher, navigate to “Load Firmware” under the File Menu and select the “.BIN” file included with your new download. The firmware update should complete. Unplug/reinsert the USB cable into the PC. 5. Verify that your current software version that you used to flash to the new firmware shows “Disconnected” on startup. 6. Uninstall your current version. You will be unable to use it unless you downgrade your firmware in the future. 7. Install the newer version included in your download. Verify that “Connected” is displayed. In the event an upgrade fails (“Update Complete” is not displayed) your card will revert to the original firmware loaded at the factory. This is usually either 3.52 or 4.01. Run these versions and verify ”Connected” is displayed. Repeat the procedure above.
