RETIREMENT JFTR U5130 - RETIREMENT, PLACEMENT ON TDRL, DISCHARGE WITH SEVERANCE OR SEPARATION PAY, OR INVOLUNTARY RELEASE FROM ACTIVE DUTY WITH READJUSTMENT OR SEPARATION PAY  Travel to Home of Selection (HOS) Authorized - Members authorized travel and transportation allowance from last Permanent Duty Station (PDS) when:    

Retired for physical disability or placed on the Temporary Disability Retired List (or TDRL) without regard to length of service; Retired with pay for any reason immediately following at least 8 years of continuous active duty (includes transfer to Fleet Reserve/Fleet Marine Corps Reserve); Separated with severance/separation pay after 8 years; Involuntarily released from active duty with readjustment or separation pay immediately following 8 years.

Entitlements  Travel to a selected home must be completed within 1 year after active duty termination(JFTR U5130-B).  Authorized to ship from one of the following:    

Last Duty Station Previous Duty Station Previously Designated Location Non-temporary Storage

 Authorized to shipment to one of the following:  Home of selection  A place other than the HOS limited in cost to the HOS,HOR, or place entered active duty  Non-Temporary Storage

Storage (Retirees)  Storage in Transit (SIT) at Destination:  If member selects a home of selection, ONLY 90 days of storage is authorized at destination (not releasing from non-temporary storage.

 Non-Temporary Storage (JFTR U5365A, U5365K):  The authority begins on the date the order is issued and terminates 1 year from the active duty termination date.  There is NO storage authorized at destination once shipment releases from NTS. (U5365-C4 regulation for temporary storage in connection with shipment from NTS)

Entitlement Extension  All shipping and storage rights expire one year from termination of active duty  Exceptions:  Member undergoing hospitalization or receiving medical treatments (JFTR U5365-C2 & D).

 Member undergoing education or training (JFTR U5365-C3 & E).  Other deserving cases (JFTR U5365-C & F).

How To Request an extension  Members will need to provide the origin counseling office with the following documents:  Written letter explaining the reason for the request, address, phone number, and signature.  Copy of Retirement Orders  DD214  Any additional documents supporting the request (i.e. letter or transcript from school, letter from attending physician).  The specific additional time period requested.  Acknowledgement that the extension is not being granted to accommodate personal preferences or convenience.

Voluntary Separatees JFTR U5360 - SEPARATION FROM THE SERVICE OR RELIEF FROM ACTIVE DUTY EXCEPT FOR DISCHARGE WITH SEVERENCE OR SEPARATION PAY

 A member on active duty who is separated from the Service or relieved from active duty is authorized HHG transportation to the members’ Home of Record or Place of Entry.  Travel must be completed within180 days from the official separation date.

Authorized Locations  Authorized to ship from one of the following:  Last Duty Station  Previous Duty Station  Previously Designated Location  Non-temporary Storage  Authorized to shipment to one of the following:  Home of record  Place from which ordered to active duty  Non-Temporary Storage If member elects to ship to or from any other location they are responsible for paying any excess costs BEFORE shipment is booked. Storage (Separations)  Storage In Transit (SIT) at Destination:  Authorized 90 days of storage at destination ONLY (not releasing from non-temporary storage)

 Non-Temporary Storage (JFTR U5360):  The authority begins on the date the order is issued and terminates 180 days from the separation date.  The request to release property must be received PRIOR TO the expiration date  Once a shipment has been converted to owners’ expense there is no more entitlement to ship

Entitlement Extensions  Authorization for HHG transportation terminates on the 181st day following separation from the Service or relief from active duty unless application for shipment is on file (U5360-G).  In hardship cases, a time limit extension may be authorized  Time Limits (U5012-I)  Extensions will not be granted for members’ convenience or personal preference NOTE: A time limit extension for transportation in no way extends the GOV’T’s obligation for storage costs for longer than the period authorized/approved for NTS or SIT (U5360-B & U5375-B).

TYPES OF MOVES  Government Moves  The Government contracts with approved Transportation Service Providers (TSP – or moving companies) to pack, pickup and transport your household goods.

 Personally Procured Move (PPM also know as DITY move)  Reimbursement will not exceed the Government’s cost  Separatees are not authorized an advance on PPM moves

Member can perform a combination of move types but weights CANNOT exceed total weight entitlement

Plan Your Move  Be proactive – start early!  Stay on top of your move.  If you don’t hear from your origin Personal Property Office after submitting all supporting documents within 48 business hours email [email protected].

Where to begin  Go to: www.move.mil to access Electronic Transportation Acquisition (ETA) for your user id and password. This account will be used by Defense Personal Property System (DPS)  What can be done with the DPS account? Submit a move application; track your shipment; file a claim and complete Customer Satisfaction Survey (CSS)

 To begin the DPS process, gather:  Orders Number  Date orders were issued  Who issued the orders

When Do I Make Arrangements?  You can start the move process anytime after you receive your official orders/authorizations.  Delay scheduling the move could prevent you from getting the pack date you want and cause hardship.
