ONGOING ADULT PROGRAMS

We hope you can stay cool by visiting the Library and taking part in our many programs. The Library welcomes 20,000 visitors each month and we hope to have record numbers for the summer. The staff is looking forward to seeing patrons of all ages participate in our Reading Program for adults, teens and children! We are glad to have two new staff members join our team, Sophia Lee in Circulation and Sara Rimassa in the Children’s Department.

KNIT NITE Every Tuesday at 7pm (No meeting 7/4) Bring needles and yarn to devote time to your current projects exchanging purls of wisdom with fellow yarn slingers. Not yet a knitter? TOM AUSTIN, Stories on Canvas September & October Tom Austin was commissioned to paint the official poster for the Broadway play Jersey Boys. In addition to being a successful visual artist, Tom was the drummer in the 1956 Rock n’ Roll band, Royal Teens, known for the hit Short Shorts, which he cowrote. His Rock n’ Roll memorabilia has been on display at the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame and five of his nautical paintings are part of the permanent collection of the United States Coast Guard. SHOWCASE MARIA CONWAY, Animals of Flat Rock Brook, Photographs July After 34 years as a Fort Lee Public School kindergarten teacher, Maria now enjoys the outdoor classroom. Her photographs capture animals throughout the seasons at the prominent conservatory in Englewood. www.flatrockbrook.org DR. SHI HONG BAO, Chinese Brush Painting August, September & October Ink has been used in calligraphy and painting for over two thousand years in China. Varying consistencies of ink are prepared by mixing in different amounts of fresh water and grinding the mixture on stone. Paintings reflect cultural nuances maintained over the centuries.
