Principles The Rhode Island Computer Museum values and respects the diversity of its collections, its audiences and its staff and is committed to: • making its collections and services available to the full range of audiences, respecting their diversity. • recruiting and developing a diverse staff at all levels, including paid staff, Trustees and volunteers. • acting in accordance with the legislation and codes of practice which relate to the diversity and equality of its audiences and staff*. • taking account of the views of its audiences and staff to develop and implement the diversity and equality schemes** and procedures which will help it achieve its objectives.

Assurance and Review The Directors require that the Executive Director, Keepers, Heads of Department, Managers and Supervisors take steps to ensure that this policy is observed by all staff and volunteers in the course of their activities. This policy document will be reviewed when required as the result of a significant change or on a regular basis and in any case within five years.

NONDISCRIMINATION AUTHORITIES Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. 2000, section 601 provides: No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, (as amended) provides: No otherwise qualified individual with a disability in the United States, as defined in section 7(20), shall, solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. The Age Discrimination Act of 1975, 42 U.S.C. 6101 provides: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of age, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. The Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, P.L. 100-209, provides: Clarification of the original intent of Congress in Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Restores the broad, institutionwide scope and coverage of the nondiscrimination statutes to include all programs and activities of Federal-aid recipients, sub recipients, and contractors, whether such programs and activities are federally assisted or not. Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, P.L. 101-336, provides: No qualified individual with a disability shall, by reason of such disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination by a department, agency, special purpose district, or other instrumentality of a State or local government.
