Derby  Hills  is  committed  to  the  safety  and  security  of  your  student.     We  realize  that  students  learn  best  in  an  environment   where  they  feel  protected,  nurtured  and  loved.      For  this  reason,  one  of  our  missions  is  to  create  a  family  atmosphere  while   keeping   students   safe   and   preparing   them   for   success.     In   lieu   of   these   beliefs   we   have   put   into   place   several   safety   procedures   we   need   you   to   be   aware   of.     Please   make   sure   you   share   this   with   anyone   who   may   pick   up   your   student.     Additionally,  please  be  sure  you  keep  your  pick  up  list  updated  in  Skyward.  Parents  cannot  add  contacts  over  the  phone. Entrance  Requirements  for  Visitors     We  require  all  visitors  to  show  a  government  issued  photo   ID  upon  entrance  to  the  building.    This  includes  parents  or   guardians  checking  students  out,  visitors  to  our  building   and  volunteers.    Please  follow  the  procedures  below:           1. Ring  the  buzzer  o utside  the  main  entrance  to  notify   us  you  are  here.   2. A  staff  member  will  ask  you  to  state  your  name  and   the  reason  for  your  visit.   3. We  will  grant  you  access  to  the  vestibule.   4. Please  come  directly  to  the  main  office  door,  and   upon  seeing  you  we  will  unlock  the  door  to  let  you   into  the  office.   5. Please  be  prepared  to  show  your  government   issued  photo  ID  and  sign  in,  or  sign  your  student   out  on  the  appropriate  sheet.         6. If  you  are  signing  a  student  out,  once  it’s  confirmed   you  are  on  the  student’s  contact  list,  they  will  be   called  down  to  the  office.   7. If  you  are  visiting  or  volunteering  please  put  on  a   visitor’s  sticker  before  proceeding  to  the   classroom.   8. Upon  the  completion  o f  your  visit,  or  w hen   checking  your  student  back  in,  please  check  out  or   sign  your  student  back  in  on  the  appropriate  sheet.     If  you  do  not  have  a  government  issued  photo  ID  card   you  can  obtain  one  at  the  DMV.     Please  note,  because  of  our  focus  on  verifying  entrants   to  our  building  with  government  issued  photo  ID’s,   parents  will  no  longer  be  allowed  to  call  ahead  to  have   students  waiting  in  the  office.      Please  arrive  in  time  to   follow  our  new  procedures.     Lastly,  to  avoid  instructional  interruptions  parents  w ill   not  be  permitted  to  take  homework,  band  instruments   or  lunches  to  their  student’s  classroom.    We  will  have   teachers  send  students  to  the  office  when  it  is   convenient  to  retrieve  those  items.  

   

 

Student  Entrances  and  Exits   Early  Childhood  students,  and  students  eating  breakfast  should  be   the  only  students  entering  the  main  entrance  in  the  mornings.     Each  grade  level  will  enter  and  exit  at  their  assigned  hallway.    See   details  below.       K  -­‐  door  5,  southeast  corner  of  the  building     1st  –  door  2,  west  side  o f  the  building   2nd-­‐  door  3,  south  side  of  the  building   3rd  –  door  7,  south  side  of  building   4th-­‐5th  –  door  9,  north  side  of  the  building       All  exterior  exits  w ill  be  locked  before  and  after  school.    Only   students  will  be  permitted  in  the  above  mentioned  entrances   and  exits.    If  you  are  wanting  to  walk  your  student  to  class   you  will  need  to  enter  through  the  main  entrance  and  follow   the  new  entrance  requirements  to  the  left.  This  must  be  done   prior  to  the  8:00AM  tardy  bell.     If  you  would  like  your  kindergartener  to  enter  the  building   with  an  older  sibling,  they  may  begin  the  year  doing  so.       District  Weather  Guidelines   The  district  recess  guidelines  are  copied  below…   Students  will  not  be  expected  to  go  outside  for  recess  w hen:   1. there  is  rain,  sleet  or  snow  falling   2. the  temperature  or  windchill  index  falls  below  15  degrees,  or   is  above  100  degrees   3. the  principal  determines  the  students  should  remain  indoors   (i.e.  high  w inds,  lightning,  extreme  heat,  etc.)   It  is  expected  a  child  will  remain  indoors  during  recess  when:   1. honoring  a  written  parent  request   2. the  school  is  responding  to  a  child’s  medical  need  or   3. the  school  (teacher  or  principal)  determines  the  child  is   inadequately  dressed     On  days  the  w eather  is  outside  the  district’s  guidelines  w e   will  dismiss  from  inside.    Teachers  w ill  line  students  up   inside  their  assigned  door  and  dismiss  them  as  they  see  you   arrive.    In  the  morning  teachers  on  duty  will  allow  students   to  come  inside  and  sit.    We  will  have  quiet  activities  for  them   to  work  on.    Students  will  not  be  permitted  into  the  building   until  7:40AM  T-­‐F  and  at  8:40AM  on  Monday.
