CASE STUDY – 5 Complex Dataflows using Graphical Modeling
LL
DataFlow 1: 2 years transaction data, from Jan2006 to Dec2007, will come from a flat file source system and stored first in an ODS object, and then moved to 5 different info cubes based on the date of transaction. [Note: The ODS object will be write optimized when implementing the solution in BI.7 scenario. Also, use the DTP’s select options rather than the code logic when moving data from DSO to infocubes.]
ch
DataFlow 2: Transaction data is coming from 2 different source systems, an ECC system and a flat file source system. The data source structure is the same in both cases. The data will merge in an ODS object before moving on further to 2 different infocubes based on the value of debit/credit indicator field. The debit /credit indicator field is not coming from any of the source systems nor is it part of the ODS object structure but rather it will be derived from the values of debit post and credit post fields coming from the source systems.
Te
DataFlow 3: Transaction data pertaining to 3 Sales Areas is coming to BI from 2 different source systems, an ECC system and a flat file source system. The data from each source system will be stored first in separate ODS objects, rd rd then it will be merged in a 3 ODS object. From the 3 ODS object the data will be separately stored in 3 infocubes based on the Sales Area. st
nd
Za ra n
DataFlow 4: Plan and Actual Transaction data pertaining to 1 and 2 quarters of 2008 is coming from an R/3 (ECC) source system and some data is also coming from a flat file source system. The data from the ECC system is detailed and each transaction indicates the revenue generated by each employee in each Sales Area whereas the data from the flat file is summarized and gives a total revenue figure at Sales Area level only. The data from the ECC source system will go to an ODS object whose fields contents are the same as in the datasource. The data from the flat file will go to another ODS object whose structure is similar to the structure of the first ODS object and therefore includes employee field also. This employee field is not on the flat file therefore it will have to be included using ‘RETURN rd TABLE’ concept. Once the data has been transferred to the 2 ODS objects, it will be merged and stored in a 3 ODS rd object. Now the 2 quarter’s combined detailed data residing on this 3 ODS object has to be separately stored onto th th another two ODS objects (the 4 and 5 ODS objects) based on the quarter. This is not the end of the story as we still th have to separate the ‘Plan’ and ‘Actual’ data existing in the 4 ODS object and store it separately in 2 different th infocubes (Infocube # 1 and infocube #2). Similarly data from the 5 ODS object will go to Infocube #3 and infocube #4. The infocube will have a field Plan/Actual Indicator field whose value will be derived from the Vtype field. st
nd
DataFlow 5: The transaction data pertaining to 1 and 2 quarters of 2008 is coming to BI from 3 source systems, an ECC system, a DB Connect source system and a flat file source system. This data has to be stored in 2 ODS objects based on the quarter. Then, it has to be further segregated and stored in different infocubes based on the value of the Customer Group.
