Second Saturday Community Breakfasts The LYN House is an existing community of believers and reaches out to welcome their neighbors here on the near Eastside. Something happens at the banquet table, I think that is why we see Jesus at the banquet table with strangers in the Gospel. You will be the ones preparing and bringing the breakfast, but here at the LYN House our goal is that once we are ready to eat we are sharing the meal together. As part of our family it just happens that it was your day to cook. Our hope at the LYN House is that Saturday Community Breakfast is a “kingdom meal”; where we share a meal with people who are usually overlooked and can find a place of welcome and value. Dr. Christine Pohl writes, “One of the most powerful expressions of mutuality and friendship is sharing a meal together. We tend to eat with people we like and with people who are like us. But shared meals break down social boundaries. All of us need to eat, and when we break bread together we embody our solidarity and common humanity.” When you come Saturday morning we hope that you come prepared to open yourself up to welcoming a stranger and being welcomed into our community. Some verses to consider and read before coming; these verses reflect our core values and is a small glimpse in what it means to welcome the stranger and serve alongside the poor. Galatians 2:19-20 Acts 2:42-47 Romans 15:7 Luke 14:12-14 Matthew 25:34-36 For teams who are coming just on Saturday, please arrive by 8:45 at the LYN House to set up, prepare any food and go over basic directions. We serve breakfast at 10. To help with the cost of these breakfasts we ask that teams who come for Saturday service provides the meal. Suggested meals can be: breakfast casseroles, bread, and fruit; biscuits and gravy and fruit; ham, eggs, grits, and toast. Please prepare enough food for 25-50 people. We understand the large variant in number makes it difficult, but we have a number of factors that effect attendance. We have two basic kitchen stoves to reheat or prepare food. LYN House will provide bread (upon request), drinks (juice and coffee), and table settings. Thanks again for your willingness to be a part of our community.
