A fall prevention seminar “A Matter of Balance” took place March 18 at the American Chinese Christian Educational and Social Services (ACCESS). A total of 13 seniors from Tai Tung Village attended.

The seminar was led by Hanna Chan, vice president of Each Asian Community on Health. She conducted seminar in Cantonese, which was the fourth session of an eight-part course.
A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce anxiety about falls. Many seniors are fearful about falling and limit
their daily activity. The program helps seniors to heighten awareness, prevent falls and encourage daily activity. On March 18, Chan discussed osteoporosis and led the group in seated stretches. The seminar is the first time ACCESS has held a health seminar for elders residing in Tai Tung Village. It is open to all seniors in the community.
The course also covers: ◾ Eliminating anxiety over falls
◾ Being aware of environmental risks for falls ◾ Improving home safety
◾ Increasing balance and physical activity
◾ Elevating daily activity and self-confidence
