SER Chorus
First Timers Event
The SER Chorus has been hard at work practicing songs and joining their many voices. Chorus members met Sunday evening and Monday afternoon in order to wow conference attendees at Tuesday’s luncheon and Wednesday evening at the banquet.
Monday morning, Kentucky Rho sister, Judy Hill, met with many of the 67 first-time SER Conference attendees. They enjoyed a performance from Seussical Jr. performed by, Gracy and Emily Petik, members of the Penguine Project. This group was given $5,000.00 from Lynn Melton, KY Rho, who received the funds through the Alpha Delta Kappa’s Fine Arts Grant. After the performance, Linda Chambers, International Executive Board Member and Jan Cook, International Representative to the SER Conference, presented each first timer a gift of a compact mirror so that sisters could “see” that they are the most important part of Alpha Delta Kappa. First-timers were also greeted by International Vice President Paula Davis, and International President Ruth Ann Griggs.
Daily Walk Kentucky Alpha Theta sister Carol Behringer met with 14 SER sisters to “Ease on Down the Road” at 6:30 Monday morning for a 45-minute fitness walk around the downtown area. Carol promises a different route each morning and plenty of fellowship! In the event of rain, Carol will lead the group in Tai Chi exercises. Wednesday’s walk will begin at 6:00 a.m. due to the State Breakfasts.
Learning Sessions SER Conference attendees were given the opportunity to participate in variety of more than 25 learning, training and membership sessions Monday. More learning sessions will be held on Tuesday with a total of 41 different options for sisters to choose from during the conference.
Conference Altruistic Project It was announced at the Evening of Entertainment that more than $3000.00 has been raised for the SER Altruistic Project, Louisville Leopard Percussionists. Raffle tickets were sold for baskets containing gift cards to various businesses and restaurants. Donations for the altruistic project will still be received until the close of the conference. Diane Downs, Director of the percussion group spoke with SER attendees at the first general session.
General Session “Inspiring Altruism” The First General Session presided over by SER IVP Paula Davis, began with a song followed by a parade of states with their state banner, flag and logo. Sisters sat with others from their states and rose to sing a state song or their Alpha Delta Kappa state song. SER Chaplain Wanda Trimble, gave a thought of the day promoting altruism in action. Greetings and welcome messages from dignitaries, International officers, SER officers and sisters involved in the conference planning were also given.
Altruistic Sales Conferences are always a great opportunity for chapters and states to raise a little extra money for their altruistic projects and those participating have not disappointed eager shoppers. The sales room will be open once again Tuesday from 4:00-5:00 and Wednesday from 12:00-1:00. Don’t forget to take a look at the wonderful display of archives from around the Region after you finish shopping!
The Game Room On Tuesday evening from 8:00 to 10:00, join your sisters in the Carroll Ford Room, Suite Tower 2nd floor for fellowship, card or board games, line dancing or just to relax. A cash bar will be available to supply your favorite beverage.
Immediate Past International President June Bellamy, gave the International Altruistic Report announcing that every state in the SER had a team for Alzheimer’s Longest Day and that over $15,000 has been raised internationally. Carol Roebuck, SER Altruistic Chairman informed us that 100% of states in the region reported for the year. In the name of our sorority, donations totaled $1,720,557.00 and 181,734 service hours. Carol ended her report with a challenge for attendees to, “Let our heats beat forever for altruism and our melodies of giving be heard across the world.” Finally, SER IVP Paula Davis, explained her Conference Challenge. She requested that sisters ask themselves what does it truly mean to promote Alpha Delta Kappa and that promoting Alpha Delta Kappa begins at the chapter level.
