Session Plan 15 Materials Preparation Welcome Preparation Gather name cards, markers, and paper. Reading Preparation Prepare core storybook The Puddle Pail according to the appropriate read strategy. Circle Time Preparation 1) “Old MacDonald”: Gather song chart and practice with Corps members. Decide which animals you will be using in each implementation and create corresponding felt board pieces. Verse 1: Old MacDonald had a farm. E - I - E - I - O. And on his farm he had a _______. E - I - E - I - O. Verse 2: With a _______ _______ here And a _______ _______ there, Here a _______ , there a _______ , Everywhere a _______ _______! Verse 3: Old MacDonald had a farm. E - I - E - I - O. 2) Interesting Sounding Words (and “Looby Loo”): Gather Materials. 3) Alphabet Memory Pocket Chart: Gather materials. Place one set of the double-sided letter cards in the pocket chart and keep the corresponding cards from the other set for participating children. 4) “Cloud”: Gather Poetry Poster; Practice poem with Corps members. For Introduction Of Center Time Activities Gather objects to use when introducing available Center Time activities in trays or shoe boxes. Prepare and practice introducing all activities, and demonstrating 1-2 activities. Create a chart displaying the names of the designated small groups of children. These small groups will meet together for Let’s Find Out About It. Center Time Preparation Let’s Find Out About It: Imagining Things in the Clouds Find and print pictures of clouds from the internet (recommended) or photocopy a page or two from It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles G. Session Plan 15 Number Cards and Science Center Preparation Number Cards Materials • Tagboard, card stock or poster board • Printed sets of number cards • Scissors • Glue tubes • Laminating machine or clear adhesive (optional)
Directions 1) If you can, print directly onto tagboard or card stock: o Use templates provided below. o Print 2 sets directly onto card stock. o Cut out all of the numbers. o If possible, laminate or cover with clear adhesive for long term use. 2) If you cannot print templates directly onto card stock: o Use templates provided. o Print 2 sets of numbers onto regular paper. o Cut out all of the numbers. o Glue numbers onto tagboard or poster board and cut out cards. o If possible laminate or cover with clear adhesive for long term use.
Science: Is This a Good Reflector? Materials • Flashlight(s) • Dark-colored poster board • Tape • Glue tubes • Tagboard, poster board, or cardboard • Testing objects (see materials list on page 1 of the materials packet)

Directions 1) Glue felt, terry cloth, peel and stick mirror sheets/Mylar® film, foil, and construction-paper swatches to small pieces of tagboard, poster board or cardboard. 2) Fold the dark-colored poster board into a tent-like shape to create a screen on which reflective properties can be tested. 3) If necessary, secure the tent to the table with tape to keep it from collapsing. 4) Note: Depending on the number of children anticipated at the Science activity, you may need to set up more than one flashlight and screen. 5) Gather testing items and use Session Plan 15 to implement activity.
