Sharon is a 38-year-old leader who has kindly agreed to allow me to film and record her unit alongside herself as for one of my short films has agreed that she is a fun leader. To get to know her better, I asked her a few questions about her experiences with Girlguiding to get to know her better; this is what she responded.

Sharon has been volunteering for Girlguiding since she was young; she was a Brownie and a Guide and helped with Acle Brownies since 2004 before becoming the Leader of the 1 st Acle Rainbows in 2010. Since 2014, she has also been helping with South Walsham Brownies, so she has plenty of experience



Sharon believes that to be a good leader, you must have good teamwork skills to be able to work alongside other leaders in a group to create a strong unit overall, and that you should be friendly, adaptable, creative, organised, caring, and most importantly, fun.





Sharon’s unit is known as 1st Acle Rainbows and meets every Wednesday night 5-6pm at Acle Primary School; the group is for five to seven year olds. Rainbows is the first stage of Girlguiding.

When asking Sharon what she finds the most rewarding thing is about being a leader, she responded that it was seeing the girls grow confidence – when starting Rainbows, a lot of girls can be shy and for them, it is the first time that they have participated in something outside of school hours with a group of people: therefore, seeing the girls beginning to make new friends and gaining independence is extremely important for Sharon, and it is nice for her to see a girl transform in regards to their confidence as an individual when it comes to moving up to Brownies when they are 7.
