Windy City Darters Singles League Rules and Regulations Article I. Participation Section 1 – The singles league shall be open to any active, paid member in good standing of Windy City Darters without regard to classification or IRN. Windy City Darters reserves the right, at any time, to create an invitational league or modify the existing league to include only those players who meet certain criteria; said criteria to be established by the Board of Directors and disseminated to the membership prior to the start of a season.

Article II. Registration Section 1 – Anyone wishing to register must complete a registration form which shall be made available by the Board of Directors at least twenty-one (21) days prior to the registration cut-off date. All registration forms must be completely filled out to be valid and all registrations must contain a valid email address for official communications. Incomplete registrations or registrations with an invalid email addresses will be rejected and the registrant will not be scheduled for play. Section 2 – By submitting a registration, members consent to the sharing of their phone number(s) and email address(es) with other singles league participants. Section 3 – Participants are solely responsible for updating their personal information (address, email address and phone number) with the league office. If a participant’s personal information changes during the course of a season and is not updated, any forfeits resulting from an opponent’s inability to schedule a match will stand.

Article III. Dues and Fees Section 1 – The season fee for the singles league will be $25. Payment of this fee is due at the time of registration. Any participant whose fee is not paid on or prior to the registration cut-off date will not be scheduled for play. Section 2 – The annual fee for membership in Windy City Darters must be fully paid as a condition of participation in the singles league. Participants whose annual fee expires prior to the conclusion of the singles league regular-season will be required to pay the annual fee in full prior to the start of singles league play. In this instance, the annual membership will renew as of the original expiration date and will continue to be due for renewal on that same date in subsequent years unless a member allows their membership to lapse.

Article IV. Season Section 1 – The singles league season will be ten (10) weeks in length. Windy City Darters will make every attempt to eliminate idle (bye) weeks, but this cannot be guaranteed for every participant as registration numbers may dictate their necessity in certain circumstances. Section 2 – All members will receive a list of opponents with contact information at the commencement of the season along with the week in which they are scheduled to play each opponent. Section 3 – A list of alternate venues for singles-league play will be distributed to the league participants or posted on the Windy City Darters’ website prior to the first week of play.

Article V. The Match Section 1 – The player designated as the “home” player will select the venue at which the match is to be played. This can be any venue with a suitable playing area. If the visiting player has a legitimate objection to the venue (generally only concerns over length of travel to get to the location are valid), the players must play at one of the locations listed on the alternate venue list. If a match needs to be relocated on the night of play because of external influences or unplayable conditions, it must be relocated to another venue on the alternate venues list. Section 2 – All matches shall be scheduled by mutual agreement of the players and must be completed in the week of play in which it was scheduled. In cases where there is a scheduling conflict and a match is rescheduled to be played other than in the scheduled week of play, the league office must be notified of the reschedule prior to 5:00 PM on Thursday of the scheduled week of play. Section 3 – For singles league purposes, each “scheduled week of play” shall begin on Sunday at 12:01 AM and shall conclude on the following Saturday at 11:59 PM Section 4 – No player may request more than two (2) reschedules in any single season without authorization from the Board of Directors. Authorization will generally only be given in cases of extenuating circumstances, the existence of which must be proven to the satisfaction of the Board by the player. If authorization is not obtained, the third and subsequent reschedule requests may, at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors, be declared forfeits regardless of whether the match is actually played. Section 5 – It is the responsibility of the individual designated as the “away” player to ensure that the match is scheduled prior to the start of the scheduled week of play as defined in Section 3 above. Note that this does not preclude the “home” player from contacting the “away” player to schedule the match; it merely assigns responsibility to the “away” player for ensuring that the scheduling is done. Section 6 – In the event one player is running late for the scheduled match, he/she should contact their opponent as soon as possible to inform them of the delay. In cases where the delay exceeds 30 minutes, the participant at the venue may declare a forfeit, except in cases where this delay is caused by an act of God in which case a reschedule shall be called for and granted by the Board even if notification has not been given as prescribed in Section 2 above.

Section 7 – In cases where a rescheduled match is to be played at a venue that is hosting other Windy City Darters matches (i.e. Open League, Mixed League or Saturday League), the regularly scheduled match shall take precedence over the singles league match. The singles league match may not interfere with regularly scheduled match play in any way. Section 8 – In cases where multiple singles league matches are scheduled at a venue on a given night and the venue does not have sufficient board space to accommodate all matches, the match with the latest arriving “home” player shall relocate their match to an alternate venue appearing on the alternate venues list. Section 9 – The Match format shall be determined based on division classification. If numbers permit, and the Board of Directors sees fit, singles league participants will be broken into three separate classifications based on IRN number and other factors to be determined by the Board. The classifications (in order from highest skill-level to lowest skill-level) will be: Premier, AA and A. The match format will be as follows:

PREMIER DIVISION Game 1 – 501, best of 5 legs Game 2 – Cricket, best of 5 legs Game 3 – 301, best of 5 legs Game 4 – Cricket, best of 5 legs Game 5 – 501, best of 5 legs AA DIVISION Game 1 – Chicago Format, best of 3 legs Game 2 – 501, best of 5 legs Game 3 – Cricket, best of 5 legs Game 4 – 301, best of 5 legs Game 5 – Chicago Format, best of 3 legs A DIVISION Game 1 – Chicago Format, best of 3 legs Game 2 – Cricket, best of 3 legs Game 3 – 501, best of 5 legs Game 4 – 301, best of 3 legs Game 5 – Chicago Format, best of 3 legs Section 10 – Diddle (Bull) and starting for all best-of-five games: The players will shoot for the bull once, before the start of the first leg. The player designated as the “home” player shall shoot for the bull first with no exceptions and cannot defer to the visiting player. The individual who is closest to the bull is the winner of the diddle and will start the odd-numbered legs (1, 3 and 5). The loser of the diddle will start the even-numbered legs (2 and 4). If the first player’s dart lands in the bull, that player shall remove the dart so as to give the second player a clean field at which to shoot. Two darts in the 25 ring will count as a tie and the players shall shoot again in reverse order. Two darts in the 50 ring will count as a tie and the players shall shoot again in reverse order. Section 11 – Diddle (Bull) and starting for all best-of-three games: The player designated as the “home” player shall shoot for the bull first with no exceptions and cannot defer to the visiting player. The individual who is closest to the bull is the winner of the diddle and shall start the first leg. The second leg shall be mugsaway (started by the loser of the first leg). If a third leg is necessary, the players will once again throw for bull, with the visiting player going first. The winner of this bull will start the third and final leg.

Section 12 – FOR THE PREMIER DIVISION ONLY: When shooting for the bull prior to the start, the winning dart MUST be in the 25 ring or the 50 ring. Two darts outside the bull, regardless of proximity to the bull, will count as a tie and the players will shoot again in reverse order. Players MUST pull their dart after each throw for the bull, regardless of proximity to the bull, to give the following player a clean field at which to shoot.

Article VI. Standings Section 1 – Players will receive one point for each game won, for a maximum of 5 points each match. Section 2 – The winning player will be responsible to report the match results and any recorded highscores on the “Singles League Match Report” and “Singles League High Score Report” on the League website at the conclusion of the match. If the match result is not received by the conclusion of the scheduled week of play, and the league office has not been notified of a reschedule, both players may be subject to a forfeit of all of their win points for that week. Section 3 – Standings will be emailed to all participants at the conclusion of each scheduled week of play.

Article VII. Playoffs Section 1 – At the conclusion of the season, individuals may be placed into the playoff bracket to determine the city champion. Playoff spots will be limited and all individuals will not necessarily make the playoffs. Section 2 – Players will qualify for the playoffs based on their performance during the season as well as the strength of division competition. In order to guarantee a playoff spot, a player must win their division. Section 3 – The playoff bracket will be seeded based on win percentage and, in case of ties, intangible factors may also be used.

Section 4 – Playoff rules and seeding guidelines will be available after the 5th week of each season.

Article VIII. Sportsmanship and Rules of Play Section 1 – Sportsmanship and respect for your fellow players should prevail at all times. Incidents of poor sportsmanship may result in disciplinary action (including termination of participation in the Singles League and/or Windy City Darters) being taken against the offending player. Repeat offenders will not receive leniency. Section 2 – Any situation not specifically covered under these rules shall be interpreted in accordance with the Windy City Darters Rules of Play. The power of interpretation of the rules shall rest exclusively with the Board of Directors and all decisions of the Board shall be final and binding. Section 3- Rules for each individual game (301, 501, Dirty Cricket and Chicago Format) can be found in the Windy City Darters Rules of Play.
