Special Program Leader Landscape & Lighting Program SALARY:

$14.22-$17.29 per hour, 15 hours per week

LANDSCAPE & LIGHTING PROGRAM: The City of Sacramento, Department of Parks and Recreation operates work readiness programs for youth 14-17 years of age. Youth work six hours per day, Saturdays and Sundays from March 2 – May 12, 2013 (no work Sunday, March 31st in recognition of Easter Sunday). Youth work in crews with an adult supervisor, to provide park maintenance throughout the city. The Special Program Leader oversees one crew. Special Program Leaders are required to wear boots. If hired, the Special Program Leader must provide their own boots. Hiking boots are acceptable. JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is seasonal. Each Leader drives a vehicle and is responsible for managing the work of youth including developing job skills, managing tools and materials, keeping records of work hours and documenting significant events or issues. You must be available to work Saturdays and Sundays. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Special emphasis will be placed on supervisory experience, experience working with youth, and the knowledge of hand and power tools. Incumbent must have a desire to assist in the development of youth. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Applicants must possess a valid California Class C driver's license. A current driving record printout from DMV must accompany the application. Those considered a NEGLIGENT OPERATOR under the DMV point count will not be considered for an appointment. Proof of citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States (required at time of employment). Minimum age requirement 25. EXAMINATION PROCESS Oral interview weighted 100%. The oral interview will consist of job related questions that will cover, but are not limited to, the following areas: Knowledge of common practices, methods, and materials used in supervising youth engaged in park maintenance. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions and to recognize and correct behavior of youth. Organizational skills including ability to maintain records and reports. Successful candidates are required to be fingerprinted.
