Goal 2: Literacy The team started with celebrating strides already made in this area, clarifying what has worked well. As part of their needs assessment, the Board looked at historical data from the Kindergarten Information Tool and the EQAO results to inform their work on this goal. At the elementary level, schools have been chosen for networked learning sessions targeting their specific school improvement goals in literacy. the Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). In high school, crosscurricular teams in each school work on professional learning, coplanning/coteaching always looking critically at the developing literacy plan.
Goal 3: Numeracy The team is working on continuing strategies developed over the past years that include improving student and teacher ‘mindset’ (attitude) about math, and ensuring a balance of skills and inquiry in each strand while providing systemwide and schoolbased professional learning opportunities. Plans going forward include unpacking the curriculum and making connections between strands; supporting our principals as lead learners; and setting up at least one professional network in each school K12.
Goal 4 Pathways Respecting the diversity of all learners, this goal focuses on supporting students as they make the many transitions in their journey through school, especially Full Day Kindergartners moving to Grade 1; First Nation, Métis and Inuit students; students with special needs; and English language learners. As students approach high school, the focus is on the myriad of pathways or choices they can select along the way towards either postsecondary education or the world of work.
