STAFFORD GRAMMAR SCHOOL AIMS

The objects for which the School was established were, according to the Memorandum of Association: a.

To establish, maintain and conduct a school or schools for the education of children and young persons so as to be an independent school within the meaning of that expression as defined in the Education Act 1944.

b.

To promote the recognition and encouragement of exceptional merit in students at such school by the institution and presentation of scholarships, exhibitions, grants, medals or other prizes or benefactions.

According to the School’s founding Headmaster, Dr J Garrood, “The vision was of a co-educational school with high academic standards and small classes, where all pupils would be happy, confident and motivated.” This formed the basis of the School’s mission statement which remains non-negotiable: We exist to provide a grammar school community of happy, confident and caring individuals who achieve their full potential. To be the first choice independent school in the area, where pupils are happy, confident and caring. To create opportunities for members of the School community to achieve their full potential and to encourage consistently high expectations. To recognise and celebrate success and endeavour of individuals and groups. To widen access for talented and hard working pupils through scholarships and bursaries. To ensure the effective and efficient delivery of a relevant and balanced curriculum through appropriate teaching and learning strategies with high quality resources. To offer a wide range of educational, sporting, artistic, cultural and social experiences appropriate to the needs of our pupils. To maintain a positive public image via media coverage and community involvement. To sustain a professional working and learning environment for pupils and employees. To encourage honesty and responsibility in all relationships, respecting the legitimate rights of individuals and stressing the importance of social awareness and sensitivity. To maintain a philosophy of continuous improvement, conscious of our history and traditions whilst adapting to a changing world.
