STAR - Santiam Technology Access and Resources June 12, 2017 Dear Santiam Canyon Community Member, Santiam Canyon School District strives to provide rich and engaging learning opportunities to our students and the community. We feel it is important that the community have access to learning tools both in school and at home. To reach towards this goal, we are offering surplus computers to students and the community for educational use at home. While these computers are older and could be headed for recycling, they still have useful life and will benefit our community. Computers are available to both district families and the community with a limit of one computer per household. The first priority is given to students in Santiam Canyon School District and then to community members living within district boundaries. The computers will be distributed with the Chrome operating system using the free for home use CloudReady system. This is very similar to the system being used by students on our Chromebooks. The computers will need a wired internet connection to allow many of the features to work properly. For those in the community who may not have internet access at their residence, we will offer computers with the free Linux (UberMix) operating system which does not require internet access. Saturday, June 24, 9 AM - 11 AM, Santiam JS High School Note: A 15 minute training session on computer set-up and use is required in order to receive a STAR computer.
