After a busy week working with the 8th graders, Guidance is now meeting with Juniors to pick courses for Senior year. During meetings with Juniors, counselors review graduation requirements, testing dates, letters of recommendations, and other important information these students need to begin senior year with success.
Students in Physical Education classes are currently working in Volleyball, Floor Hockey, Badminton, Swimming, and being certified in CPR / AED. Health classes are currently learning about goal setting, decision making, and nutrition.
The English Department met during its February meeting to work on ways to update their Close Reading Strategy when teaching a text. They plan to continue this work after the vacation. Additionally, MCAS test preparation sessions have commenced; students are showing great interest in learning tips and tricks to persevere and perform with confidence next month. Sessions will continue until the MCAS exam.
Adjustment counselors have numerous groups running this year to help their students. Some groups are to assist with social skills, while others address needs of many students including a group run by Rick’s Place to help students who are dealing with loss.
Art At the start of the semester, Graphic Design students create cereal boxes to preview parts of graphic design. At the end of the semester students demonstrate growth by creating music cases of their own design.
After researching an artist of their choice, 3D Foundations students created hand sewn creations inspired by the artist.
Foreign Language Students in Italian 1 worked on acrostic poems using descriptive adjectives to form their names.
Italian 2 students created maps of their ideal cities, using shop/store and transportation vocabulary.
Italian 3 students wrote postcards home from an imaginary trip they took to southern Italy’s gem - Puglia.
Italian 4 students created propaganda posters for Italian political parties.
