Student Guide to Respondus LockDown Browser Downloading the Software. To use Respondus LockDown Browser, you must download the software to the computer you will be using for tests. The download is free and can be retrieved from the url below (this is a unique url, do not download other versions): http://www.respondus.com/lockdown/download.php?id=234212453 Select your operating system (Windows or Mac) and follow the onscreen instructions for installing Respondus LockDown Browser. Note: If you are prompted to accept programs from Macrovision and Respondus or to run a Java application, click Yes. Once installed, Respondus LockDown Browser will automatically add a shortcut icon to your desktop.

Taking a Test in Respondus. While Respondus LockDown Browser is open, you will not be able to open any other program, including browsers such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. 1. Close your Internet browser (for example, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari). 2. Close all other applications. 3. Open Respondus LockDown Browser by double clicking the icon on the desktop. Note: If you are first prompted to close any programs, click Yes. If you do not, you will be unable to take your test. If 4. The browser should then load the DSU Canvas login page. 5. Log in to Canvas. 6. Using the Courses drop down menu at the top of the screen, select the course that contains the quiz you need to take. 7. Navigate to the area with your quiz and select it.

8. Click the Take the Quiz button. 9. If the instructor has required an access code for the quiz, a page will appear with a textbox where you may type it in. Click Submit after you have entered the access code. Note: If your instructor has not required an access code, you will be taken directly to the quiz. 10. You may now take the quiz. Be sure to click Submit Quiz when you are finished Note: Once you have started the quiz you will be unable to close Respondus LockDown Browser until you finish the quiz and click Submit Quiz. 11. Log out of Canvas 12. Log out of the browser by clicking the red x at the top of the page 13. EXIT Respondus Lockdown by clicking the x in the top right corner Technical Help: Problems installing on a Macintosh At the step, "Finishing the installation," Mac users may get an error message that reads, "Cannot configure application properties." Run the downloaded installer again. At the "Select a Destination" page of the installer, make sure the bottom part of the page shows "Destination folder: Applications." If the bottom part of the page is blank, click on the "Macintosh HD" icon on the top of the page to make the destination folder appear. Unable to login to the LockDown Browser Make sure LockDown Browser was installed using the link intended for Delta State. If you found the LockDown Browser installation link using a search engine, the version you installed won't work with your server. Test to make sure you can log in to DSU Canvas site using Firefox (or Safari or Internet Explorer). If you have problems logging in to Canvas, you will have problems accessing the Respondus LockDown Browser as well. Call OIT toll free at 1.866.264.1465 Error message stating I need to download LockDown Browser when I open the Quiz in Canvas This means the item you are attempting to access requires the use of Respondus LockDown Browser. Make sure LockDown Browser is installed on the computer (using the link above). Make sure that you are actually running Respondus LockDown Browser. It is a separate browser program that must be started before you log into your learning system. LockDown Browser does not launch from inside other browsers.
