Jochum Wiersma – Introduction to himself and NWROC. Research emphasis; sugarbeets, small grains, some soybeans, dry beans, sunflowers. Mike Christian. NC Regional Director. Mike’s term is up as 2 years vice-director and 2 years as director. Time has gone by quickly. It is Minnesota’s turn for Vice Director. Acknowledged the role of Minnesota Educators in Regional and National Leadership. Reviewed yellow sheet with information on positions and annual meetings. Oregon is bidding this year for 2009. Galaxy conference in Salt lake 2004. 2008 Galaxy in Indianapolis, Indiana. Scholarships - $40 commitment will get $2000 in scholarship in two increments. Been a great program for individuals and team educational tours. Funds are available and NC has been active in drawing these funds. Outstanding Young Farmer Program sponsored by JC’s and John Deere. A great opportunity for an all expense paid trip for the farmer. Suggested we work towards that in Minnesota or work more closely with the JC’s. Mike talked about a futuring committee established by our president. This may help us meet the needs of professional improvement opportunities. The committee is looking for input. Will be discussed at Buffalo National Meeting. Buffalo AM/PIC discussed. Not too late to register. Final program and agenda on NACAA website. The NorthEast has cooperated on these meetings. It is a joint effort and helps with the money issues, etc. Discussion related to membership. Other business items including secretaries report of 2004 annual meeting. Brad Carlson motioned to approve, Ray Bisek Second. Treasurers report delivered by Dan Martens. See Handout. Ag Education Fund reviewed. Board has not yet prepared 2005-2006 budget. Review of 2004-2005 budget. Ray Bisek has unsubmitted bills for PILD and JCEP. Dan Martens will continue to work with budget and education fund with campus staff. Neil Broadwater motioned to transfer $3000 to operating account of MAEAP from the 4154 County Ag. Educators Fund. Motion seconded by Jerry Tessmer. This motion and discussion backs up the recommendation brought by the the board to the summer meeting attendees. Discussion on balance and if this establishes precedent. Motion approved by those in attendance. Treasurers report motioned approval by Chuck Schwartau and second by Brad Carlson. Break for lunch 12:00 noon. Reconvene – Elections introduction by Dan Martens, Dave Pfarr in second year as Secretary. Dave Bau introduced by Dan Martens. Brad Carlson motioned unanimous ballot, Chuck Schwartau 2nd, motion passed. Congratulations extended to Dave Bau. Secretary candidates introduced Liz Stahl, and Rick Abramson. Nominations closed. Ballots handed out. Liz Stahl elected as secretary. Director position – Troy Salzer nominated by Chuck Schwartau, seconded. Troy Salzer unanimous ballot elected. Nathan Winter nominated and elected Alternate Director. Chuck Schwartau will be seeking 3rd and final year as NACAA treasurer. Dave Nicolai motioned to support Chuck Schwartau in treasurer role and in seeking North Central Regional Vice-Director Role. 1
Seconded by Nathan Winter. The North Central Meeting report at National Dan will present Chuck as Minnesota’s Choice. Friend of Agriculture Award discussion. Names submitted, Dave Torgerson – MN Wheat Growers; Marilyn Johnson MFVGA Exec. Secretary; Joe Varner, livestock sales barns, supporter of extension; Mark Klephake, Dairy Star; Amy Baker; Ron Eustice, MN Beef; Dave Preisler; Matt Widboom, KWOA; Merri Post SWMN Dairy Initiatives Coordinator. Break from Business Meeting, Introduction to Deb Zach. Campus Regional Director and also with Univ. of MN Crookston and with NWROC. Deb Zach also works closely with NW Regional Partnerships. Regional responsibilities and 3 counties. Deb Zach displayed some of the NW products and programs. Crops Newsletter and On-Farm Cropping Trials Book. Campus opportunities are many. Searching for ways to come together around important issues of the Northwest. Local foods initiatives discussion. A website has been developed to assist in the connections between local producers and institutions. Also working with Reservations in NW Minnesota. Good collaboration between Extension Educators, college, and NWROC. Back to Agenda. Description of Program Recognition Council, Professional Improvement Council, Extension Development Committee, State Address Coordinator. Dave Pfarr agreed to speak with Kent or Joe to see if they want to work with Art or take Life Position Member. Meeting Adjournment. Ray Bisek moved to adjourn. Nathan Winter Second. 2:15 pm.
