Dear EC Family, The final pillar of the school year was awarded after this week’s May Crowning ceremony. The Pillar of Community Award recognizes students who embody community in Church, school, and family. The freshman recipient of the Pillar of Community was nominated by Mr. Juguilon. He states that, as a freshman, one of the challenges is entering a new community and becoming a part of it. This student jumped in and became a leading member of several extracurricular clubs such as Board Game Club, Dungeons & Dragons, Film Club, Socratic Club, and Drama Club. This student also participates in all class activities, seeking to be a part of this community. He has also laid a foundation for bringing others into the community. The freshman recipient of the Pillar of Community is Justin Funkhouser. The sophomore recipient of the Pillar of Community was nominated by Mr. Fox. This student is involved in many activities and sports here at Elyria Catholic, being one of the first to step up and assist wherever needed. This student is very helpful with the shadow program and is present at most school functions. He is an altar server at St. Jude, where he has taken the younger servers into his care, teaching and guiding them along the way. The sophomore recipient of the Pillar of Community is Lucas Costantino. The junior recipient of the Pillar of Community was nominated by Mrs. Ziegelmeyer. She states that this student is an active member of the EC community and is involved in many clubs and activities including Academic Team, Ambassadors, Band, Drama Club, Science Olympiad, and Softball. This year, she represented our school when she traveled to Columbus to speak before the Ohio House Education Committee in support of House Bill 200. She is also an active member of her parish, Sacred Heart, and is scheduled to speak there later this month to promote Catholic education. The junior recipient of the Pillar of Community is Ivelysse Gracia. The senior recipients of the Pillar of Community were nominated by Mrs. Heinrich and Mrs. Watkins. They state that these students truly put Christ’s service above all in their lives. Their dedication to the community is shown through years of service at their parish, St. Anthony, and with their involvement in Camp IDEAS. They are involved in band and in just about every club here at Elyria Catholic as well as several outside of school. Their love for family shows every day, as they are inseparable in their volunteer activities and constantly have a watchful, caring eye on each other. The senior recipients of the Pillar of Community are Andrew and Matthew Nord. In Christ’s service, Suzanne Lester Principal
