TAG Students will be cluster grouped in groups of 5-8 students in Grade 2 classrooms so that they will have an intellectual peer group. The Junior Great Books Program (http://www.greatbooks.org/) will be part of instruction for Grade 2 TAG students. There will be one reading selection per quarter- beginning with an English text selection in Quarter 1, then alternating with Spanish text selections. Critical thinking strategies and processes will be imbedded across content areas for TAG students. These strategies include: Kaplan’s Depth and Complexity Model as well as a focus on building student’s critical reasoning including: quantitative, deductive and analogical reasoning. Differentiated flexible grouping will be in place in each class based on Reading and Math needs.

Professional Development An English Teacher from each school and the Spanish Immersion Teachers having the cluster group of TAG students will receive ongoing professional development from TAG Program Staff in the following areas: • • •

Junior Great Books Training Kaplan’s Depth and Complexity Critical Thinking and Reasoning Strategies

Spanish versions of Junior Great Books will be implemented each year in the immersion program. Each school has a TAG Coordinator as a point of contact for TAG parents.
