Finishing Touches with Nylon Cord or Cotton Thread... ♥There is no ironing nylon thread.♥

2) Using a needle threader, pull thread through one or two knots at a time. Do not try to force thread if it will not pull through easily. Instead rethread needle threader back through finished knots first and try pulling again. 3) Be sure to rethread the thread ends back through as many finished knots as possible prior to cutting off the excess. 4) Wet both sides of bookmark with water. 5) Place bookmark (front side down) on a clean, dry, white cloth.

I found it next to impossible to rethread cord ends back into finished knots if using the C-Lon Micro Beading Nylon Cord. Tie a tight square knot, close to bottom of the ring. Place a small dab of GS Hypo-Tube Cement onto knot. Let dry. Snip ends off.

6) Heat iron to lowest setting.

Prior to ironing a cotton thread bookmark you will want to rethread the thread ends back into the lace for a professional finish.

I do not recommend using starch, sizing or a stiffening agent -- ever!

1) Tie a tight square knot prior to rethreading thread ends.

7) Place another clean, dry, white cloth down on top of bookmark. 8) Press till bookmark is dry.

Store clean, dry bookmark in an acid free environment when not in use.

Modern Split Ring Tatting… ♥

S1

S2

S1

The top/first part of the ring is tatted using shuttle one’s thread to manipulate the double knot. Each hitch of the double knot transfers over from shuttle two’s thread to the ring thread. The bottom/second part of the ring is knotted using shuttle two’s thread to manipulate the lark’s head knot. The hitches of the lark’s head knot are slid into place on the ring thread. There is no transference of the hitches. The lark’s head knot is the second hitch and then the first hitch with no transference from one thread to the other. The lark’s head knot is a S1 macramé knot.

Split Ring Lark’s Head Knot Join: knotted Joining the lark’s head knot portion S2 of the split ring to a picot by pulling the ring thread up through the bottom of the picot till a large enough loop to permit shuttle two to pass through is formed. Guide the shuttle through the front of the loop to the back. Pull ring thread until the loop transfers back through loop. Pull shuttle two’s thread until the loop is taut. This is the second hitch. Tat the first hitch to complete the Lark’s Head Knot and the join. TATBiT

RW = Reverse Work,

second hitch S2♥ S1♥

back of work

DR = Directional Ring. Reverse the work to face the back of the lace. The sequence of the hitches are tatted in a precise formula so that all the bars, cover all of the knots, on the front of the work. Instead of tatting the double knot, which would appear in the wrong sequence on the front of the lace, you start the ring with the second hitch (2h) of the double knot, then work the required number of complete double knots stated, minus one. End each sequence with the first hitch (1h) of the 8♥

5 - 5 - 5 -3 5. = the pattern script is shown how it will look on the front of the lace. This script will have to be broken down so that you can tat the ring on the reverse side of the lace. 5 would then be 4. 2h 4 1h - 2h 4 1h - 2h 4 1h - 2h 4 1h bring shuttle through the ring to the front of the work before closing the ring. Count twice, close once.

TATBIT’S TATTED MINI-CROSS BOOKMARK

Split Directional Rings Technique… A combination of two techniques. Split Directional Rings are rings that have been tatted/knotted with two separate shuttles. The top/first part of the split ring is tatted using S1 to manipulate the double knot. The bottom/second part of the split ring is knotted using S2’s thread to manipulate the lark’s head knot. Only tat the amount of knots stipulated per sequence. Remember not to close the split ring unless stipulated by a . (period) in the pattern script. The directional ring portion is tatted using S2 to manipulate the double knot. Reverse the work to face the back/wrong side of the lace. The sequence of the hitches are tatted in a precise formula. Instead of tatting the double knot, which would appear in the wrong sequence on the front of the lace, you start the ring with the second hitch of the double knot, then work the required number of complete double knots stated -- minus one. End each sequence with the first hitch of the double knot. Guide the shuttle through the ring to the front of the work before closing the directional ring.

Chains…♥ 2H 1H CH-LHK = Lark’s Head Knot Chain: The hitches BAR of the lark’s head knot chain are manipulated with shuttle two’s thread and are slid into place on shuttle one’s thread. There is no transference of the hitches. The lark’s head knot is the second hitch (2h) and then the first hitch (1h) worked in that order with no transference. The lark’s head knot is manipulated while the lace is facing the front. The lark’s head knot is a macramé knot and not a tatting knot. CH-RDK = Reverse Double Knot Chain: The hitches are manipulated with shuttle one’s thread and transfers over to the shuttle two’s thread or ball’s thread. The reverse double knot is the second hitch of the double knot and then the first hitch of the double knot tatted in that order. The reverse double knot is manipulated while the lace is facing the front. This is a true tatting knot that takes a bit more dexterity to accomplish.

⊗= Lock Knot: Lock knot joins are used to lock the running thread (S1 ) into place when joining a chain to a picot. Lock knot joins do not count as a hitch or knot, nor are they calculate in any knot count. Pull shuttle’s thread down through the front of the picot to be joined until a loop large enough to pass the shuttle through is formed. Guide shuttle through and then pull the loop taut by continuing to pull the shuttle to the right.
