Name: Clayton Main Title of the talk: The next web Speaker: Time Berners-Lee Inventor Presentation date: February 2009 Date viewed: 2/11/2017
Summary of the talk: In this Ted talk Tim Berners-Lee shares his ideas about how the future of the world-wide web should look. He starts by talking about how he invented the web and http because of the frustration with unusable documents and different formatted data. He explains that the problems we face today is all this new data is kept private or formatted in a way which makes it unusable. Tim showed how if we made links between open data on web pages we could solve problems and get what we need much quicker. If everyone was able to give just a little raw data the links between that data would provide nearly unlimited resources.
Interesting things I learned from the talk: I find it interesting that people, business, organizations and so on, tend to keep their data private or share it in a way that’s not raw and easy to collect and format. Not only would it help the person collecting the data but also the person who shared it.
Evaluation of the presenter: Tim did a good job presenting the information. It was very educational and intriguing. Tim seems like the kind of person that is really trying to better the world. His lisp made it hard to focus at times but not overpowering.
Evaluation of the talk: There was quite a bit of information in this 16-min speech but it flowed and remained entertaining. Tim made a lot of good references and had lots of charts and of course “data.”
